Howl heavy swarm

By Gausebeck, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been thinking about lists that have Howlrunner flying with heavier hitters than regular TIEs; I really enjoyed some lists along those lines in 1.0. I don't feel like I've zeroed in on what I want yet, but my current thought is:

Howlrunner (40)
Pure Sabacc + Seismic Charges (47)
Major Vermeil (49)
Gideon Hask + Crack Shot (31)
Mauler Mithel + Crack Shot (33)
Total: 200

The idea is to go as high-damage as possible and joust, and then have generally maneuverable and flexible ships for when it turns into a furball. I like Howl + Sabacc + Gideon as a core: multiple "must kill first" targets, and Gideon should be very efficient when he can shoot last. I'm less sure about Vermeil and especially Mithel, but I'm not seeing better options. One possibility would be to replace Mithel with an Alpha as a blocker, though that would mean deploying at lower initiative, and attacking after Vermeil and Gideon makes them a bit weaker.

Does anyone have experience flying this type of list in 2.0 or generally have ideas about who would work well flying with Howl beyond TIE/lns?

I haven't flown empire in 2nd, but against it several times. E.g. against inferno squadron + shuttle or strikers + sth or reaper + sth.

I had the impression that if I wanted to fly strikers or reapets, I'd fly them independently of the rest of the list, since they are so fast and maneuverable.

So for me your list looks like two parts - tie/ln close together and ailerons coming in hard from the side. Maybe I am wrong. I am not sure if this is a list that makes up for good synergy

The idea would be to keep them in formation for the Howlrunner bonus at least for the initial joust, though that's definitely more awkward with stikers/reapers. Thinking about it a little more, it could instead look like:

Howlrunner (40)
Pure Sabacc + Seismic Charges (47)
Gideon Hask (30)
Del Meeko (30)
Wampa (30)
Academy Pilot (23)
Total: 200

Pretty similar at this point to a standard Howl elite swarm but with Sabacc instead of Iden -- offense instead of defense. The bombs could also be traded for Elusive or a few Crack Shots; not sure what's best there. I think flying in formation with a striker on the front outer corner wouldn't be too bad, though it would definitely require learning a few patterns.
