What IP would you like adapted to an Armada style game?

By Piratical Moustache, in Star Wars: Armada

this is why it needs a good system like Armada has.

and why I don't think I'd be excited about it until its done and in front of me, unfortunately...

Halo. Spartan games did really well with Halo Fleet Battles, but it didnt last. I am sure for a variety of reasons, but yeah. I would love to see a Halo franchise, space navy combat game.

Y'see, I'm not a huge fan... But I'm not sure if thats just because every iteration that's been done of it so far is either horridly overcomplicated (SFB, although I do enjoy it so on occasion), or just so horrendiously mismanaged (ST:AW)

See I'm right there with you. I enjoy the idea of SFB a great deal, but it's a horrible engine for a great setting and tactical depth. Even Federation Commander (SFB lite) is still a not great engine.

My dream space combat game engine takes aspects of Armada and SFB, actually, something I've been kicking around for a bit.

What about Stargate.

Many factions with fewer ships. Could be cool!

Halo. Definitely Halo. Still hoping some good models from Spartan Games will show up on ebay to be used on Armada bases that doesn't end up going for way over my budget.

In thinking about it, I think a game of steampunk or deiselpunk airships would work really well for this engine.

Mad Max! Think it could be really interesting. Tons of vehicles to choose from.

Well recognized IP as well...

I still got a box of stuff lying around. Not sure how well they would convert though.

for Scifi, Babylon5 is good, Star trek and Gundam were explored by fans and seems good too

Andromeda would be great, 4 or 5 factions, fighters/small crafts, a few big ships each, no given federation but local partnership between factions. Plus the Andromeda ship design is a beauty (even if military challenged?)

Gundam would be interesting, but doesn't that have a game already? Jovian Chronicles/Jovian Wars

Andromeda would be awesome. I'd love to put two Glorious Heritage-class heavy cruisers on the table.

What did you think of B5 Wars from AOG? It was a bit quicker than SFB, a bit less complicated on the tracking, and used real space physics.

id love to see fleet action rules for Star Wars and Star Trek though

I never played it, but from what I saw it was impressive. I'm not huge on per-system damage allocation, though (one of my big problems with SFB)

Unlikely to ever happen but a Killzone tabletop game like Armada would be cool. Really like the contrasting Helghast and ISA ship designs:

latest?cb=20110509064224

latest?cb=20100821211055

Could have a Planetary Ion Cannon objective analogue as MAWLRs shooting at ships in low orbit.

latest?cb=20140331194207

The problem is that neither navy is fully fleshed out, so FFG would have to design a lot from scratch. They could do a Legion style game easier, except a MAWLR would be the size of a large dog.

I here you on that, but it’s MUCH quicker for B5 Wars.

Space Battleship Yamato (aka Star Blazers)! Especially the 2199 reboot...nice visuals there. You've got ships of all sizes, various fighters, and the rule of cool reigns supreme!

Not sure what to do about the Wave Motion type weapons though...

Discarding upgrade cards that need a concentrate fire token and dial?

For me I would love to see a Firefly adaptation,

Especially with really weird Reaver ships

Ecco the Dolphin.

Dolphins and such would be small-sized bases, whales would be huge-sized bases, sharks and such would be medium or large. Squadrons would be little schools of fish. Etc ...

Stargate.

It will never, ever happen but Freespace. Three totally unique factions, NTF and Hammer of Light sub-factions as an expansion.

Babylon 5

According to its creator the people who own the B5 IP have it on complete lockdown refusing to either release it or do anything with it.

I mean, I can kinda get that. A story that is done is done. It's like someone else writing discworld books - something's are better when they are allowed to end.

Yea, it sure seems like the vast majority of franchises are far better when they are just left alone. For every Mad Max: Fury Road or AL()ENS there are dozens of projects much more like The Predator (2018) or Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom or Michael Bay's Ninja Turtles or The Last Jedi. Heck, even with AL()ENS, it's the case that AL()EN^3, AL()EN Ressurection, AvP, AvP2, Prometheus, and Covenant have all been largely disliked or flat-out despised by fans. Much like how while Star Trek: The Next Generation was an amazing reboot of Star Trek, ST:DS9 was pretty great, while Voyager and Enterprise represented rapidly-sliding quality with the JJ Films and ST: Discovery largely be disliked by "trekkies" for being so divergent from what Trek was about.

I whole-heartedly respect the Babylon 5 owners for holding the IP. Just a shame that, after they've passed away and the IP moves through their estates, it will almost certainly be re-booted in some awful, explosion-laden series that shares little with the original source other than name.

Indeed. That's the thing about that: Sometimes it works out, sometimes not so much. Besides, I actually liked the first and forth season of Enterprise, but I knew I'm in the minority there.

Last I knew JMS still had the rights for making a movie otherwise Warner-bros owns everything else.
