Qubed!

By clontroper5, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

this is one of the List im Practicing with!

Name: Qubed 1.2
Faction: Imperial
Commander: Admiral Motti

Assault: Precision Strike
Defense: Fighter Ambush
Navigation: Superior Positions

Quasar Fire II (61)
• Admiral Motti (24)
• Captain Brunson (5)
• Ruthless Strategists (4)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Pursuant (2)
= 100 Points

Quasar Fire II (61)
• Agent Kallus (3)
• Ruthless Strategists (4)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Squall (3)
= 75 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Bomber Command Center (8)
= 31 Points

Quasar Fire I (54)
• Skilled First Officer (1)
• Boosted Comms (4)
= 59 Points

Squadrons:
• Gamma Squadron (10)
• Tempest Squadron (13)
• TIE Advanced Squadron (12)
• 8 x TIE Bomber Squadron (72)
• JumpMaster 5000 (12)
• Mauler Mithel (15)
= 134 Points

Total Points: 399

the Idea is to tarpit and destoy all of their squadrons useing Ruthless stratagist, and then Bomb the Ever Living Tar out of their ships!. Works extra well vs squadless especially Raddus (hmm you want to drop here on my flagship? I would like to see you try to sqeeze past all 13 squadrons! if your raddus vette survived the early halestorm that is!)

any thoughts on it?

After my Game vs @BrobaFett Im thinking about switching the 3rd quasar to a Raider:

Name: Qubed 2.0
Faction: Imperial
Commander: Admiral Motti

Assault: Precision Strike
Defense: Fighter Ambush
Navigation: Superior Positions

Quasar Fire II (61)
• Admiral Motti (24)
• Captain Brunson (5)
• Ruthless Strategists (4)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Pursuant (2)
= 100 Points

Quasar Fire II (61)
• Agent Kallus (3)
• Ruthless Strategists (4)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Squall (3)
= 75 Points

Raider I (44)
• Chart Officer (2)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• External Racks (3)
• Instigator (4)
= 57 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Bomber Command Center (8)
= 31 Points

Squadrons:
• Gamma Squadron (10)
• Tempest Squadron (13)
• TIE Advanced Squadron (12)
• 8 x TIE Bomber Squadron (72)
• JumpMaster 5000 (12)
• Mauler Mithel (15)
= 134 Points

Total Points: 397

Instigator should be able to help tip the balance of squadron power back in my favor should i come against another bomber list and should be able to contribute to anti-ship damage if necessary

Hehehe

Nice but chceck this blog entry

Main drawback of this kind of list is no kick from ships

EDIT:

posted during writing.

I used 2 quasar build but that was not enough in squadrons fight. Never was tabled but always loose. Raider was used as a taxi for motti. Quasars melted as snow on summer from enemy fire. Squadrons where normaly ignored. Best score was 5-6 for me but usually it was 3-8.

Moderate opponent will hide his squadrons on obstacles from 1 dice flak. Ruthless is also bouble sided blade. Im' curious how I will cope with those list with mine.

Now I use list like this one:

Author: NairoD

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 397/400

Commander: Admiral Motti

Assault Objective: Precision Strike
Defense Objective: Fighter Ambush
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

Victory I-Class Star Destroyer (73 points)
- Warlord ( 8 points)
- Agent Kallus ( 3 points)
- Ruthless Strategists ( 4 points)
- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)
- H9 Turbolasers ( 8 points)
- Ordnance Pods ( 3 points)
= 103 total ship cost

[ flagship ] Quasar Fire II-class Cruiser-Carrier (61 points)
- Admiral Motti ( 24 points)
- Pursuant ( 2 points)
- Captain Brunson ( 5 points)
- Ruthless Strategists ( 4 points)
- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)
= 100 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)
- Bomber Command Center ( 8 points)
= 35 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 25 total ship cost

7 TIE Bomber Squadrons ( 63 points)
1 Dengar ( 20 points)
1 Tempest Squadron ( 13 points)
1 Major Rhymer ( 16 points)
1 Black Squadron ( 9 points)
1 Valen Rudor ( 13 points)
= 134 total squadron cost

Ruthless is incredibly strong, but IMO the Thrawn ISD + Tie Bombers ruthless fleets are where it's at. ISD (I prefer kuat) + Demo + goz + boatloads of bombers works just as well as 3 quasars but gives you ship combat options too.

You need to bring ship to ship power because in a squadless or squad light matchup the points spent on ruthless are really going to drag you down.

Also- if you are going to be relying on ruthless, objectives are going to be key - I would take Blockade Run, Fire Lanes, and Minfields because Blockade run and Minefields let you place ALL obstacles allowing you to clear the way for unobstructed flak and fire lines is pretty scary with an ISD. I'd also tweak the squads to include 2 or 3 lambda shuttles. Not only are they great for Ruthless fodder keeping bombers alive, but strategic ramps up the effectiveness of Minefields and Fire Lanes. Building this kind of synergy is what takes average fleets to the next level and makes them really sing.

But the Whole point of this was too NOT run an ISD! Geeze lol

Good points, though

I mean, this is part and parcel of the squad cap limiting fleet building. If you could take more than 134 in squads then you wouldnt need a secondary damage source. Unfortunately rules are rules.

I REALLY miss quasar demo goz x3, but that was a casualty of the flotilla nerf and with Sad pushing average activations to 6 I've tried and tried and failed to find a non ISD squad build for wave 7. We will see what the ssd does to thw meta and whether or not it drives average activations lower and brings non isd carriers back into some sort of functional role

Although I will say my love for Star Destroyers is the reason I play Armada so I won't complain that they are incredibly useful and basically everywhere haha

The biggest thing your list seems to be missing is chiraneau... He can get those bombers mouthing when he needs to no problem... Cutting to quasar ones and going flight controllers instead of strategist might work better... Then try including dust fields, they can save a quasars bacon big time... Cutting a bombers and jump to add dengar seems good to get counter... Points saved can go to making raider into demo

8 TIE Bomber Squadrons ( 72 points)

Skycake, that is essentially the list that won our Regional 2 weeks into wave 7 :D It's not bad, but it's gonna get tabled pretty often because of it's low bid and susceptibility to anything capable of rolling an accuracy. And most ISD squad lists won't mind trading blood in the squad fight for the table.

I made a Thrawn version:

Author: Messi22

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 395/400

Commander: Grand Admiral Thrawn

Assault Objective: Blockade Run
Defense Objective: Fighter Ambush
Navigation Objective: Minefields

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)

- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)
= 114 total ship cost

Victory I-Class Star Destroyer (73 points)
- Agent Kallus ( 3 points)
- Ruthless Strategists ( 4 points)
- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)
- Ordnance Pods ( 3 points)
= 87 total ship cost

1 Major Rhymer ( 16 points)
7 TIE Bomber Squadrons ( 63 points)
1 Tempest Squadron ( 13 points)
1 Black Squadron ( 9 points)
1 Valen Rudor ( 13 points)
1 Dengar ( 20 points)
= 134 total squadron cost

I’d have serious reservations about a 114 point Quasar. And ordnance pods, which despite being a monstrous combination with Kallus requires close range for a speed 2 ship. Putting Thrawn on the VSD seems like it might be better, as it pressures enemy squads to actually get in close. Maybe Superior Positions over Minefields too? It’s definitely a better way to farm points.

Haha yeah I hear that very often when I play the Quasar :D

I have used the quaser a lot, also in another version with a GSD and 2 flots + squadron wing. However, in my expereince it has worked as the perfect bait. When people see such a ship deployed they tend to get reckless and try rush it because it is such an easy target (which it is!). I tend to get this to work to my advantage and let them chase it, I fly it like it was part of an Ackbar fleet, sideways across the field. I rarely ever lose the quasar when I play. Yet, this is not to say it is a good idea, just my personally experience and I totally get your concerns.

Regarding the VSD, I tend to lose that ship more often than out, due to the speed 2. I use it as an anchor. I have some trouble when flying it, because I feel it can get blocked very easy. And I to am very keen on making a bomber fleet without an ISD, which is a ship I use for almost all my fleets. Nonetheless, I have become used to have the possibility of going speed 3 if I get in a tough spot.

How do you guys fly the VSD?

I usually have SP, I just wanted to test Minefields since I have a VSD so it could help making its jounary more comtabfbel. xD The last 4-5 times I played SP I got over 130-150 points so I agree that it is so much better to farm points.

Matchups are more crucial for this list perhaps
