Undying and discarded OL cards

By Anselmus, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi there,

1. I know this has been discussed a couple of time, but I cannot find it anymore. What happens to excess damage to undying creatures in non-campaign (RTL) quests?

2. Are OL cards discarded for threat discarded face up or face down?

Thanks

Stephan

1. In a non-RtL/SoB game, damage wraps around. After the creature is killed and makes his Undying save, the remainder of the damage is applied and can potentially kill him again. This continues until all damage from the attack has been applied OR the creature fails an Undying save and is finally killed. Note that nothing which triggers on a creature being "killed" will trigger off an Undying creature unless it fails the save. Also note that armor is only subtracted ONCE (the first time) It is not subtracted again if the creature stands up and takes more damage.

2. Face up. There is only one discard pile for the OL cards.

1. DJitD pg23
When an Undying figure is killed, roll one power die. If a power surge is rolled, the figure is instantly restored to full health ( although any leftover damage from the killing blow is then applied to it ). An Undying figure must stay dead in order for effects that take place when it is “killed” to actually occur.

2. Face up by default. There is nothing to say they are face down and they join the same pile as 'played' cards.
Basically the heroes need to have proof you aren't calling whatever card you wish Danger and discarding it for 10 threat. So they can always inspect your discards.

I played the undying thing like you said. What made me suspicious is the rules summary on the back of WoD and AoD, which says undying creatures com back with full health.

Details get dropped so that the ability summary fits on one page. It's just a reminder.

As Antistone mentions, the summaries are quick references that gloss over the details in order to fit on one page. I think there are even a couple places where the summaries are outright wrong, but I can't remember any examples. When in doubt, check the full rules on the subject.

As for this particular case, the undying creature does come back to life with full health; and then it immediately starts taking more damage which may or may not bring it back down to zero. Lather, rinse, repeat.
