Gavin Darklighter

By Gallanteer, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Gavin Darklighter lets friendlies change a hit to a crit if the target is in his fire arc.

Does this also work with the auto hit of homing missiles (no dice are thrown)?

No.

The auto hit of himing missiles doesn't use dice, it just causes the target to suffer damage.

Explain to my how you would change a HIT result as a CRIT result without any result to change...

All depends on the use of the word 'result' I suppose. Being pedantic the result of the defender choosing to take the autohit is a single damage icon. Gavin lets you change an attack result (not a die result) from a hit icon to a crit icon.

I'm not going to argue over it as it seems logical and fair to not allow it to happen, but the wording is vague.

It's only vague if you ignore the language on the cards and in the rules. If you pay attention to the way words are used and defined within the game of X-wing, it's very clear that Gavin modifies dice results and not suffered damage.

You clearly missed part of the rule of this game as nexttwelveexits said.... because result as a clearly defined meaning in this game... There is a couple of "vague" thing, but this is far from it...

Just the fact the Gavin clearly look at result and Homing Missiles never talk about result...

The timing also counts. Gavin triggers in modify dice step, with Homing Missiles you skip defense step. So Gavin cannot trigger.

homing missiles effect lets the defender suffer one (hit) damage. there are no results to modify here, since no dice are rolled.

the result of the attack is that the attack hits and the defender suffers one (hit) damage, but (hit) or (crit) results in game terms means dice results, not results in any broader sense.
