I was pondering using the card sleeves and eventually dismissed them since they seemed like a pain.
That said, spills happen. Does FFG sell spare parts and/or replacement cards for this game?

I think that you can contact the Customer Care and ask for some replacement.
i have all mine in protectors, its only a pain putting them in once and well worth the effort

As far as I know, FFG does NOT sell individual bits from their games separately, however, their customer service is very good about replacing missing or damaged parts (for free!) They've proven themeselves to be far more lenient than I would have expected, too. That said, I wouldn't recommend "don't worry, customer service will replace anything that breaks" as a strategy for dealing with spills or other accidental damage.
Card sleeves are a good way to protect the cards, and the hassle of putting them on is only a one-time effort. Of course, card sleeves won't protect the board itself. If you're particularly worried about spilled drinks or something, then get a couple TV trays and institute a "no drinks on the table" rule while playing. It's not hard to avoid accidents with a little forethought on the subject. Mind you, I also don't have kids yet.
PS: love the name. SC2 rules! =D
Do the card sleeves make the cards hard to shuffle? I'd think they would. Maybe I should just order a pack and try it out.
Also, yes, SC2 was chock full of awesome, easily in the top 3 best games of all time. Tell me an SC MMO wouldn't kick ass! ![]()
Sleeves make the cards easier to shuffle. Don't have to be careful about the corners and they slide between one another more easily.

The only disadvantage is that the decks can become unwieldy from the increased height.

Pfft, my Talisman Adventure deck (288 cards) stands a mere 15cm tall (6" and change) and that's with thicker sleeves than I use for the large cards, so AH's biggest deck, Mythos is nowhere near that height
. AH's small decks barely reach triple-digits, Mythos and OW encounter pass 200.

Thanks for the pointer, I hadn't thought about that.
The sleeves must be pretty decent though, since FFG appears to have sold out. That or a lot of people like buying snake oil!
