Jake Farrel Stress Timing

By Rettere, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Can Jake do the following:

1. Execute a white maneuver

2. Take a target lock action.

3. Red boost using A-wing ability.

4. Give himself a focus action from his pilot ability.

Had someone claim this would be possible since the stress from Step 3 wouldn't hit until after step 4.

No. Red actions don't work like 1e ptl. The stress is part of the action.

Nope, Jake Farrel can't let you have your cake and eat it... No Lock + Focus for you!

Jake can give a different ship the focus action from the red Boost, but not himself.

That would be triple action. Jake can still give you double (with no stress!) just doing a Boost/Barrel Roll into his own ability targeting himself.

I think that's cool enough.

He can of course do a triple action:

does a Roll, gives himself the focus, he can then do a red boost off Thrusters... and then hand out a focus action to another ship (in R1). The blues on the Awing are very good for a ship that you don't mind stressing.

Didn't think about this before, but it seems correct.

Roll > own Focus > Red boost (no more actions for Jake at this point) > give a focus action to another ship in range 1

It is definitely correct since that is the exact scenario used for "Ability Queue Example #1" in the appendix of the rules reference.

If you are truly evil just coordinate him to do barrel roll into boost giving out 2 focus to other ships, and do blue maneuver after to take focus yourself,
