Attachment for all those scoped pistols...

By penpenpen, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, we all know that Star Wars has serious love affair with the idea of putting scopes on pistols. Indeed, sometimes even multiple scopes. And in a system that allows so much fun fiddling with your equipment, it's sort of annoying that the rules for adding a telescopic sight to a pistol to get that iconic look literally does nothing most of the time (as pistols only rarely reach long range and further). Sure, you can explain it away be saying it's a laser sight/nightvision scope/electronic sight or just say that it's the weapons regular sights instead of boring old iron sights, but hey, since you're a stickler for stupid details (and have spent way too much time with wookieepedia and the visual dictionaries), wouldn't it be nice if that thing canon sources identify as magnifying macroscope actually did what it said on the tin?

So, I tried my hand at a custom, possibly pointless, attachment.

Rangefinding Macroscope

A variable strength, self-adjusting telescopic sight particularly suitable for smaller weapons such as pistols, but can be fitted to almost any type of ranged weapon that can benefit from a sight.
Models Include: Various.
Base Modifiers: Innate Talent (Sniper Shot).
Modification Options: 1 Reduce the difficulty of ranged combat checks at long and extreme range by one Mod.
Hard points Required: 1.
Cost: 500 credits.
Rarity: 4

Considering just calling it a pistol macroscope and dropping the price and the mod option.

I think an Innate Talent (Sniper Shot) is a nice representation for the Rangefinding Macroscope.

However, the range finder armor attachment in dangerous covenants (p. 54) also gives you Innate Talent (Sniper Shot) , and only that, but costs 1500 Credits.

So for the sake of balance you should probably increase the cost.

I had the same issues since scoped pistols seemed to be actually a very common thing on screen. It didn't seem the scopes we were seeing could be explained by specialists wanting to "snipe" at longer ranges with pistols, but something even common soldiers were using. I came up with this:

CQ OPTICS

A short-ranged targeting scope for precise targeting in "close quarters" engagements. Close Quarters Optics may be installed on any non-thrown ranged weapon (with the exception of weapons like flame projectors that would not benefit from a sight), but it typically used on Pistols or Carbines.

Weapon Limits: Any fired weapon that could benefit from a sight.

Base Modifiers: Innate Talent (Precise Aim 1) at Medium or closer ranges.

Modification Options: Innate Talent (Natural Marksman) Mod, Quick Release Mod (it involves a house rule regarding removing attachments).

Hard Points Required: 1.

Price: 200 credits.

Rarity: 1.

The armor attachment applies to all weapons while the scope only applies to that one. I don't know if that makes up for the difference, but it cover some of it.

You can mod the armor range finder for an extra rank, and as @Ahrimon pointed out, it applies to every weapon you use, freeing up hard points on weapons for stuff like damage mods.

Exactly 1 pistol has long range (X-30 Lancer) and 0 have extreme range.

I am not sure that mod would be used often.

I get it. Sniper Shot increases the range....

I like it, but natural Marksman is a damned good talent for just 300 credits.

I suppose the extra modification could be removed?

Are you implying that you won't interfere or object if I implement slightly tweaked versions of your suggestion? And just let me have full say on how implement house rules at my own table?

Preposterous! Any gentleman of stature would see suggestions to modify their house rules for what they really are: slights on their honor! For god's sake stand up for yourself and demand retribution!

Ok, so this post might've gotten away from me a bit on the sarcasm... ?

Codswallop! Never a fairer nor rational, nee moderate response have I gandered with mine own two spheres of sight!
