For those who have played, run the follow up.

My group is playing the BB with the pregens, and then character create. Would it be too hard to play the sequel with non pregens.

The only thing you need is a hook. If they're not playing the party of people who save the Topaz Championship, you need a reason why this group (the PCs) are getting special treatment by Agasha Sumiko. It could be as simple as 'top of their class during the recent entrance exam' (given the larger Chinese influence, I'm positive there are exams available for all Imperial positions).
