Tug Life

By Waldorf28, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been experimenting with lists that contain YV-666s and Quadjumpers. My previous iteration had two Ion Turret Y-Wings but they just weren't able to land the ion tokens reliably enough. This new and refined version has a slightly greater spread of initiative values and swaps Ion Turrets for Palob's token stealing. I'm looking forward to trying it at a local tournament next weekend.

HWK-290 Light Freighter - •Palob Godalhi - 50
•Palob Godalhi - Tethan Resister (38)
Moldy Crow (12)

YV-666 Light Freighter - Trandoshan Slaver - 66
Trandoshan Slaver - (58)
•Lando Calrissian (8)

Quadrijet Transfer Spacetug - Jakku Gunrunner - 28
Jakku Gunrunner - (28)

Quadrijet Transfer Spacetug - Jakku Gunrunner - 28
Jakku Gunrunner - (28)

An interesting alternative to Palob would be some form of Drea Renthal. She'd grant rerolls to any of your Tugs or to the Trandoshan, if she has the target in either her primary arc, or in her turret arc (if she has one equipped... it even extends to range 3, even if the turret can't shoot that far).

Yes I've seen variants on the Drea/Tug swarm and it seems really strong.

YV already has Lando for his re-rolls though and Tugs primary role is the tractor beam action. I think Palob will hit harder and his token stealing compliments and augments the effect of the Tugs.

Also, bottom line, I really like brown ships. I kid you not. Even the car I drive is metallic brown :).

List has gone 3-0 today against two different opponents (Han & Luke and 4-Lom/Pirate Swarm). Hwk-290 was down to one hull in one game but we didn't lose a ship. I think this list has legs.

Makes me feel like I need a next to tug I only have 2 at the moment. I like that your list is very simple not a lot of Upgrade cards to forget about.

Almost tempted to swap out the Slaver for a Trick-shot Han with Lando crew but this definitely has legs thanks to its simplicity.

This list is still undefeated for me. It's going to a tournament at the end of the month which will be the true test of its mettle.

Ive been flying this, its 37 hp sure delivers and im winning. But I prefer to have quads in quads.

Needs more flying and tweaking.

I just tried this list against a Palp Aces list (Whisper and Onyx Defender both with Juke and OGP with Palp)

The Slaver took the brunt of the attention and ill admit i flew him poorly, bumping into my own stuff and not seeing a really obvious K-Turn out of the defender but by god the Tug-swarm is lethal.

I almost found it easier once the YV was gone since it gave me room to move. I kinda love it, though i do wonder if there's a better option than the YV.

I think you could be right.

How about this. Means Drea can take Han Gunner. Although you sacrifice the full 180 arc of the YV I reckon the Marauder would maneuver better and it is only 2 health less (no reinforce - not sure if you used it much or just focused with the YV).

I'd almost be tempted to take Marksmanship over Crack Shot. Kimos have white reload so they can keep slinging the prots and the extra crit could be nice. Not that Crack Shot on the primary is bad.

Edit: Dropping the Dampeners completely and reducing the Shield Upgrades to Hull Upgrades would free up room for R3 which is nice for chaining targets and keeping your opponent guessing about who you're after.

The YV-666 is the love of my life. Every tournament I ever won I flew one. For me it's a keeper. Fly another list with three Tugs while we can afford the points to do so by all means, but for me it has to be the brown ones ;).
