Popular Cards

By Carrion Prince, in Talisman

What is the most popular card in your group for the adventure, spell, or expansion deck?

The magic archive gets some cheers because its easy to get spells and sell the crappy ones for gold so you don't get stuck with them.

Mules, everybody loves mules (and similiar cards, horse and cart, porter, miner etc.)

Any concealed pouch, bag of holding, bag of carrying always popular.

Orb of knowledge (or variant) is very popular around here.

Amulet is popular with players who draw troll/ogre chieftain.

Gnome for rush win.

Sword of light for pure stats boost.

From the dungeon tunnel fighter, gauntlet of power and oaths of vengeance for increase in stats.

Cloak of feathers from the treasure deck always popular draw for the quick teleport win.

Any enemy with stat 7 or higher is a popular draw, provided you can take it down.

The wand of course, spells galore.

There are a lot of good cards

Wand, Orb of knowledge, solomon's crown, druid staff, fate stealer, runesword, helm of warding, mirror shield

Maiden, Unicorn, fiend slayer, colossus, genie,

Lore master, goblin sapper

arcane archive is also nice.

and then we have the treasure cards too.. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Random Spell

I have once cast random on my opponent, and it did not turn out as i expected.

Instead of losing something, or getting toaded, he has gain 1 strength point sad.gif

colossus, druid staff, warhorse. the cross is nice for getting strength characters through the dungeon quickly

Anything "insta-kill" for its great equalization factor. So far, only the Basilisk. Well, The Reaper itself too, but that's not a card. Runner up is any "Lose all cones" for ST or Craft (Random Spell, some Strangers / Places). Classic Raiders is sorely missed, as is the Horrible Black Void ending. Toading is a little too mellow, but it's better than nothing.

To keep in mind = even in tabletop games, AD&D 4th Ed., Star Wars D20, Classic Warhammer RPG, Shadowrun etc... we home rule it to make criticals open ended so that if you roll enough 20s (or 6s, as the case may be) so that a lowly L1 can toast your high level character on a (granted... hugely...) lucky streak. Or, you can return the favour to someone higher than you.

For us, we're hoping a return of Classic Raiders and HBV Ending in Highland, though there has been ZERO proof of that in anything official ever said. Any "roll or you're screwed" cards are top of our list. Cards that are "roll or lose ONE of your cones / items / followers / etc..." can be a pain, but, more often then not, it just tinks off one of the resources of the player's mighty arsenal. Then again, we stock up a LOT before going to the center.

Pure "fun" wise, I'd say any moving cards. Carnival. Peddlar. Leper. Ekor. Having a card appear on the usually barren tavern, or wherever, is often cool for us. Yeah, I know. Doesn't take much.

Finally, any super-enemies is ok. Anything 7+ in a stat (ST or CR) is great. We need more cards of "draw 1-2-3 etc... more cards than normal" to allow enemy combos of 2+ bad guys ganging up against you.

Overall, any "setback" and "kill you" card I've forgotten should be added to our list.
