Is Jostero a bit nerfed? (Tractor Beam)

By Lyianx, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Jostero's ability reads

Quote

After an enemy ship suffers damage, if it is not defending, you may perform a bonus attack against that ship.

In 1E, his ability triggered, even from obstacle damage if he was moved due to a tractor beam (because it specifically said from an attack). But the way "defending" is worded...

Quote

That ship remains the defender until after all “after attacking” and “after defending” abilities have resolved during the Aftermath step.

Does this mean that, Even if during an attack, and someone uses Tractor beam to move a ship onto a rock, does that ship roll for damage while it is still the defender, and thus, would not trigger Jostero's ability if that ship did have to suffer damage for that roll?

If so, does that also mean that the obstacle damage is part of the attack, which could trigger other abilities that trigger on or due to Defending status?

I think using the actual tractor beam weapon won't trigger his ability, for the reasons you describe. But you could still pair him up nicely with a quadjumper or two.

He also works quite well with bombs/mines.

yeah, im not questioning that. Quadjumper, bombs, obstacles during activation.. no question.. Only question was the tractor beam weapon.

I don't think it'd be appropriate to call that a nerf, since Jostero triggers from things such as being moved onto a rock from Tractor Beam attacks, or the damage from taking an ion from the 1e Dace Bonearm, were by no means fully settled questions.
