Jedi Sacrefice (Luke/Kanan)

By theBitterFig, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Premise: Kanan dares you to shoot him. He'll reinforce, and he's got Magva Yarro waiting to unleash a Lock/Force attack if someone goes for the Ghost. Meanwhile, Supernatural Luke is Supernatural Luke. You'll need to be moderately close to Kanan early on, to potentially benefit from his pilot ability, but a Dorsal Turret pointed sideways covers a lot of space. The list can easily throw two 4-dice attacks with Locks and double force charges.

  • Luke Skywalker (Supernatural Reflexes, Proton Torpedo, R2-D2, S-Foils) 91
    • Luke's build is mostly set. He could drop to a plain R2 Astromech.
  • Kanan Jarrus (Heightened Perception, Dorsal Turret, Magva Yarro, Chewbacca) 109
    • Kanan is more flexible. He'll need Dorsal in order to make his pilot ability work, and he'll need Magva for the action efficiency, but nothing else is too precious.
    • I figure Chewie could be good, since he'll knock out any really nasty crits (hilarious aside: Kanan doesn't care much about Blinded Pilot!), but someone like Hera Syndulla would also be decent.
    • Heightened Perception seems good for the second round of the fight. Magva might have a TL from last round, Kanan can focus, and spend a force to amp a 5-dice range-1 shot up to Init 7 to put a kill on something.
    • Getting upgraded to an Ion Cannon Turret might not be bad (not for Ion effects, but for 3 dice!), but the goal is to fire Kanan's primary every turn. That won't always be possible, but it's a question of how many points you want to invest in a backup and pilot-ability enabler. Cost-wise, you'd probably have to cut Heighten, but maybe then switch to Cassian Andor? He'd provide information for Luke to better use Supernatural Reflexes in a no-bid list
  • Currently 200 points, 0 bid. Giving Luke a generic R2, and running Kanan with only Magva and Dorsal would clock in at 190 points. Maybe that's solid for an Init 5, but it leaves the ships with fewer options, and a lot of Boba/Guri bids are more aggressive than that. I figure better to just fork the bid, take the upgrades you want.

Mostly, I'm looking for an excuse to throw a beatstick Ghost onto a table, as well as to get in on the Supernatural Luke action.

Maybe not as tanky for Luke without Kanan’s pilot ability, but I enjoy flying Hera with Kanan crew, and that seems like it might help?

-both i5

-Ezra Gunner for double-tap/extra force token, maybe?

With Ezra (and keeping Magva, Dorsal) you’d have to drop Luke’s torp and go with a cheaper droid, but maybe an option?

Put this on the table and kind of liked it.

I swapped out Chewbacca for Jyn Erso and Shield Upgrade on Kanan, and I think that made sense. Never used Jyn, since my opponent was focusing Kanan and Luke was free to Torpedo, but Kanan felt decent. Init 7 when it mattered. Target Lock attacks. With the weight of fire needed to bring down a reinforced Ghost, Luke is able to get his Torpedoes working pretty easily, and make it into the late game, where he can really zoom and regen.

If Luke is the target, Kanan can zap out a bunch of dice, and Jyn helps Luke fix his blanks, since the Force is going to cover most of his Focus results.

Might have to give it a second try sometime.
