Can Edrio flip his S-Foils card twice in one round?

By MikeEvans, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Obviously Kullbee can do this, because that's literally his ability. But can Edrio do this under the right circumstances?

So let's say Edrio starts the turn with his S-Foils open. His brother Benthic does what he does best, and puts a focus token on him before he activates. As far as I understand it, you can choose the order of resolution when the the triggers are the same. My question is regarding S-Foils.

But... can he do the following?
1. Close his s-foils. The card flips 'before you activate' so that should be no problem, obviously.
2. Perform a focus-->red boost. His ability is also 'before you activate,' so no problem there either.
I'm fairly sure this is ok. Here's where it starts to get sticky. Can he then:
3. OPEN his s-foils. We're STILL in the 'before you activate' trigger, and Edrio hasn't technically activated yet.
4. Finally activate, reveal his dial, execute his maneuver, and perform an action (including barrel roll) if the maneuver was blue... and have his full 3 dice on attack during Engagement.

Thoughts? It definitely feels gamey but unless I missed a rule somewhere, it seems legit. No rule I'm aware of says you can't flip a card more than once/turn. I have not done an exhaustive search of the rules and FAQ, though.

No. This is covered by the Once-Per-Opportunity rule.

Quote

Once Per Opportunity

Many abilities are restricted to occur “once per opportunity,” which means they can be resolved only one time during the specified timing window. For example, if an ability occurs “At the start of the Engagement Phase,” this ability can only be resolved once at the start of each Engagement Phase. As another example, if a ship has the ability “While you perform an attack, you may reroll 1 attack die,” it may resolve that ability once during each of its attacks.

Ah, this is just what I was looking for. I didn't like the idea of Edrio flapping his wings like a hummingbird. Thanks!
