Budget Sloane, is it worth it?

By Rimsen, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Honored Admirals!

After the rise of the Big ships our current meta converged back to heavy squadron fleets. Rieekan and Dodonna reappeared, with occasional TIE Bomber swarm.

In light of this, i'd like to blow the dust off from Sloane.

My take on this: I'd like to go 2nd, since I don't want to play their objectives. Because of this, I prefer longer ranged ships, ISD2 (preferably), Interdictor, Cymoon or Victory.

Also, i'm planning to cut back from the fighter screen. It might come against Sloane, but I feel like I need more firepower, and I had to cut something. That's why I decided to use Generic Screen. I could drop a Gozanti , and mix some things to make place for the "Flying Ace Circus", but I'd like to try something different, maybe it works.

Do you have experience with these kinds of fighters? How effective they are with Sloane? Too fragile? Or the suicide squad tactics doomed to fail?

The fleet:

Sloane's generic fighters: 398 points

Gozanti-Class Cruisers:

Comms Net

Gozanti-Class Cruisers:

Comms Net

Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer:

Admiral Sloane

Electronic Countermeasures

Leading Shots

Agent Kallus

Avenger

XI7 Turbolasers

Gunnery Team

Quasar Fire I-Class Cruiser-Carrier

Pursuant

Flight Controllers

Boosted Comms

Expanded Hangar Bay

Maarek Steel, TIE Defender 3x, TIE Fighter 4x

I've used a couple different Sloane lists with generic TIEs and they worked. You have to trade well, use obstruction and keep out of flak zones when possible, which is why I highly recommend Squall to allow an alpha strike or just shuffle injured but unengaged fighters around. For a better bid you could drop XI7s. They don't tend to focus damage too well when your target is getting pounded by four fighters first. Is EHB on the Quasar to allow one extra blue die, or strengthen an alpha? It might be worth dropping that as well; you could upgrade a defender to Jendon, or a fighter to Saber/Valen. Good luck!

Needs Jendon badly. I know it's budget, but you need that Maarek x2 shot in any Sloane build as a first and foremost barring any other additions.

I didn't do the math, but swapping a defender to jendon seems like a trade of 1 more consistent dmg/attack (found it more useful in squadron attacks, but useless if you roll dmg on blacks) for 0.5 dmg and increased chance of accuracy. (FC blue dice is lost on the Jendon tap)

I might try though. Jendon Maarek is hands down the most flexible and effective squadrons for any Imp fleet. Maybe paying for it with XI7, recommended by @The Jabbawookie Jabbawookie

It might by overkill. I thought that its useful so I only have to exhaust the brace, but maybe XI7 and Avenger is really just wasteful.

Well, the good news is you do only have to exhaust the brace. ☺️ 15/16 times you bomb them you'll either negatively affect their redirects or front hull zone directly. The XI7s will result in 1-2 points of damage being kept on the target hull zone, but will make multiple accuracies after the brace is burned less useful (spending *both* redirects is preventing one damage from being moved, which is a little worse than dealing one damage.) Jendon is mainly there for better bombing, with tankiness, slightly better antisquad and relay as bonuses. He's the first thing I'd put in if you have 4 points.

For the ISD --> Skilled First Officer.

Thank you for all of your insights! That's the beta form I will start to test today.

I haven't add the SFO, since I still want to leverage my flak to support the squadrons. I really like the idea though, so I can switch in a squadron sooner if the quasar is about to blow up. I added Brunson to the Quasar, but I'm also thinking on QLT on the ISD2 instead. I know it's only useful against squads attacking the ship, but that's what I expect from the meta. With LS a rerollable Kallus black against aces can add up I imagine. I won't use it yet, but I'm thinking on it.
