Simultaneous shooting & shuffling cards

By GreenLantern1138, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Two questions.

Does 2.0 still have a version of simultaneous shooting? Recently my I3 ship was killed by an opponent's I3 ship, and he allowed me to shoot before I took mine off the board.

Second, does Rexler flip a random card up or does the opponent choose? I had a crit that made all my turns red, so I flipped it down with Chewie crew. The Rexler player wanted to flip it back up. It was just a friendly game so I lightly shuffled the damage cards on the ship, but should they remain untouched so players know exactly what effect is on a card?

1. Yes.

2. Exposing is random.

@Innese is correct on both counts.

It should be noted that the answer to both these questions can be found in the official Rules Reference. I highly recommend reading it in its entirety, if you haven't done so already. Then, keep a copy available for reference while playing. (I've found a tablet works amazingly for this, but a phone will do fine.)

Yes, but it's different from first edition.

In 2.0, you always handle all ships of a given Initiative before you remove any lethally-damaged ships from the board. This can result in leaving some ships in play longer than they would have been in 1.0 (which is important for cards like Biggs and Intimidation).

So you do all Initiative 7 shots in a block, then remove dead ships.
Then you do all Initiative 6 shots in a bock, then remove dead ships.
And so on.

Another nifty effect of the way simultaneous fire works in 2e: Guri can shoot down an enemy ship at Range 1 of Boba Fett, then Boba can attack with his reroll on some other enemy ship.

Another is Ruthless. If your opponent (or you) destroys one of your ships, and you have a ship with the same initiative and the Ruthless, you can kill it even more.

Is there a specific ruling for this or is it an interpretation of his card ability only?

Rules reference, page 8:
"If an ability exposes or repairs a ship’s facedown damage card, and the ship has multiple facedown damage cards, the card is chosen randomly from the facedown damage cards the ship has."

Except on Thane Kyrell, who specifically instructs you to look at and choose a specific damage card... I mean, he's not to the level of broken-OPOP, but I think he'd have been more fair if his expose was as random as anyone else's expose.

Thanks everyone. Also Thane was part of the reason I asked, since he specifies choice and Rexler doesn't I figured it was ok to shuffle the cards.
