Carrion Lancer Upgrade Idea

By Viktus106, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Got thinking about thematic upgrades and wondered how/if the below would be a viable future upgrade / tweek to Carrion Lancers.

1. Their skill can be used on units that are engaged.
2. Their skill can target terrain pieces and place blight tokens on them. When a unit enters the terrain, they receive all the benefits and consequences of the terrain piece as normal but also receive all the blight tokens placed on it.
3. A new training upgrade;

Drooling Maws:
Points: 2 x number of trays in unit
The range of your skill ability is reduced to 1 - 3, you may place a number of blight tokens on the target equal to the number of trays in your unit.

You may target units that are engaged.

The cost is 2 but doubles for each tray in the unit. For example:
1 tray - 2 points (pointless really)
2 tray - 4
4 tray - 8
6 tray - 12

Reason I wanted the points to change depending on the unit size is because it massively increases in value with the more blight you can apply in a single shot. I don't think paying four points for an additional blight token when using your skill is too much but paying 12 points to drop six blight on someone is quite a high price to pay, especially since the unit costs 68 points base anyway. Plus, it get's less effective as the battle rages on and the unit takes damage.

In my Waiqar/Uthuk balancing thread I note that this would break the game if it's too cheap. Running 13 naked with this ability innate would be able to lock down any non-msu army from rolling any dice (as it's probably removing 13 dice per turn).

With that said, I would like to see a more natural ability than the way it is originally written. My suggestion was that it can put blight on units (even engaged), but only if the target did not already have one. This would improve efficiency for me due to my play style, without the possibility to break the game. Thematically, the venom from these guys are not as strong as whatever it is the archers are shooting.

Too complex, and too many blight.

Ive been running pairs of worms with wind rune or rune of corruption and simul order, and doing well. Needs ardus to make it happen, but well worth it.
