Vader and the Decimators

By Stefan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Far from being the name of a punk band, I'm trying to build a good list including Vader and a Decimator. My first iteration was this:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (88)
Seventh Sister (12)
Fifth Brother (12)

Darth Vader (70)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)
Fire-Control System (3)

Total: 197

But I feel it is too heavy on upgrades, lots of redundancies, and would profit from a third, cheap ship. Enter my second attempt:

Captain Oicunn (84)
Intimidation (3)
0-0-0 (3)
Shield Upgrade (3)

Darth Vader (70)
Heightened Perception (3)
Fire-Control System (3)

“Wampa” (30)

Total: 199

But I'm not yet happy with the synergies of this one. I hoped to use Wampa as a blocker and an opportunity cost target (if you don't shoot him, he gets a die, if you do, you're not shooting the Decimator). But again, not yet happy with the synergies. Finally, I had this idea:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (88)
Lone Wolf (4)
Hull Upgrade (2)

Darth Vader (70)
Heightened Perception (3)
Fire-Control System (3)

“Wampa” (30)

Total: 200

But I still don't really feel it. Any ideas?

I think any decimator needs Minister Tua stapled to it. I toyed around with a decimator + ace list and came up with this.

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (88)

Trick Shot (1), Minister Tua (7), Hull upgrade (2), 0-0-0 (3), Agile Gunner (10)

Darth Vader (70)

Supernatural Reflexes (12), Fire-control System (3)

Total: 196

Looks really solid, I also really like AS Ryad with RAC, although need to play test it more.

This. That Vader and Tua on RAC should be the baseline

Thanks! So no three ships. It seems the Decimator really wants a reroll, no? That'll give him that without the need for Target Locks:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (88)
Lone Wolf (4)
Minister Tua (7)
0-0-0 (3)
Agile Gunner (10)
Hull Upgrade (2)

Darth Vader (70)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)
Fire-Control System (3)

Total: 199

personally, only chirpy REALLY wants minister tua. For Oicunn, I really really like the first build, 0-0-0 and intimidation on oicunn is really mean. In that kind of build, sense on vader could actually be well worth it, to prepare bump and place your re-enforce and/or turn your turret if you know you wont bump. Wampa is also a very good filler for a decimator, being kind of imperial biggs. And maybe it's just me, but having played both pilot once, I feel that oicunn is better than chirpy, but this is entirely up to my personal experience.

I miss Commander Kenkirk for the Decimater. I think I was the only person who used him though ?

I've been thinking about this one:

TIE Advanced x1 - •Darth Vader - 92
•Darth Vader - Black Leader (70)
Fire-Control System (3)
Cluster Missiles (5)
Munitions Failsafe (2)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)

VT-49 Decimator - •Captain Oicunn - 107
•Captain Oicunn - Inspired Tactician (84)
Intimidation (3)
Tactical Officer (2)
•0-0-0 (3)
Proton Bombs (5)
Tactical Scrambler (2)
Dauntless (6)
•BT-1 (2)

Total: 199/200
