I've been thinking about this since getting my grubby mitts on Second Edition, and I'm still not sure what to fly with the new Darth Vader.

Like a lot of Imperial players, I want to fly him with Supernatural Reflexes, Afterburners, and Fire Control, but that takes up so many points I don't know what else you could effectively run with it. I' ve tried a couple of low-level Gunboats to decent effect, and have considered three Barrage Bombers, or even just a fully loaded Rexler Brath, but none of that seems like it's going to be worthwhile.

So I don't know, what is the best way to be Anakin's wingman?

I don't think Vader is very good at present. Supernatural Reflexes is a bad fit for him but it's the only Force power that's worth a ****, even if it is bad on him for the cost.

SotL is mostly correct.

But you could fly Vader (FCS, Supernatural) with Soontir (naked, or with Predator) and Whisper (Juke). Bombs and ordnance will do a number on them if you get caught, but they should be fun to fly.

Yup, Soontir with Whisper would get to to 108 (110 with predator) and you get a good bang for the buck. Soontir is hard to fly but if you get in to range 1 or 2 it's quite easy to maintain bullsey and he then gets a free focus and has a reroll. And thats after you already evaded and barelled/boosted. Whisper is unpredictable and very good as a late game piece too.

Woah woah woah. Supernatural Vader is INSANELY GOOD. He can chain that B-Roll into MORE ACTIONS, lets recall

I think he'd be great with OS-1s

Vader needs someone to draw fire in the early turns before you thin out their numbers or break their formation. I don’t like Soontir or Whisper for that as they are even squishier than Vader. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Redline or Deathrain with tragedy stimulator, proton Torpedoes, and a bomb of your choice. That leaves about 55 points for another ship that I still haven’t settled on.
