Poll - what is your playstyle?
I’d say the closest style to my own is the Ace, though it has elements of a couple of the other options mixed in.
I generally go with the non-formation swarm, if you could call 4-5 ships a swarm. The TIE Fighter aces are surprisingly playable, and you can bring a lot of them.
I answered Fat Turret, because I've usually flown it since 2e dropped (it takes skill now, trust me) but I've been trying more R1 synergy stuff recently.
No. I change my style depending on the ships I fly and, occasionally, what my opponent is flying.
I've used 4 of your options since 2.0 started, and a fifth one earlier.
I'd say you're missing one. Although it could be that what I'm currently trying to do is just bad and shouldn't be an option...
Semi durable fighters that don't always move last, with munition/turret based fire support.
Is that tool box?
Such as Phantom/Bomber/Aggressor, Inquisitor/Punisher or even Dash/Luke at the other end of the spectrum. Although, tbf that last one does fit vaguely into aces.
Have been playing a lot of dual Defenders, which fits aces, but they don't always move last or suffer terribly from not doing so.
Edited by Cuz05Sorry, I might have been better served providing more context. The question is more "what do you like flying" than "what are you currently flying". So you can fly all of them (I have flown all of them at least once in the last year). But which one do you enjoy the most and really want to be flying?
For example: many people now are debating A-Wings' role in the game. If you like them as is, you're a non-formation swarm or perhaps control player at heart. If you want an i5 or i6 ace for them, you're probably a moves-last ace player at heart.
Dash/Luke is fat turret and ace, since Dash himself moves last and repositions. So ask yourself what do you like better? Do you like that Dash moves last and repositions to avoid shots? Or do you like that most of your list is invested in one ship so there's less moving pieces to think about and more excitement for you as decisions with that ship are more important? If you like the first, you're an ace player, if the second, you're a "fat turret" player.
@Cuz05 since you said your defenders don't do well when they don't move last, I would say maybe you're an "ace" player? But it's up to you to decide which you like best.

Does my above post help? Is there one in particular you enjoy more than the others?
I love flying aces, seatr-of-the-pants and might-blow-up-at-any-bad-green-roll is an exciting way to play this game. But as far as lists go I like flying the toolbox lists. Its like a puzzle where you have to adapt your strategy each time to different lists!
One of the more fun 1.0 lists was 3 PS9 aces. Games were short!

I enjoy flying all of them. Currently, I'm enjoying 5 Sabre Squadron Aces most. They are a loose swarm; they are also Aces, vs lower In; they are far too fragile to joust with, but so mobile, zooming around - and blocking actual Aces, givng me a control element.
So, I find your poll far too limiting!
Last game, I flew Rebel Synergy Alpha (Wedge, Airen, Dutch, and a Bandit: Swarm Tactics and Torps/Missiles all round. Deleted a Punisher before it could fire, shot down Lt Sai without him ever getting a shot, lost Airen to Proton Torps in between).
For my next tournament, I'm looking at: Redline (so, bombs and ordnance), alongside Soontir (so, Ace), and possibly Vermeil (jam, Vader, so Control). That also ticks 3 of your options.
Add 'mixed' to the poll and I'll tick that (but so would many people, making the results really inconclusive) or allow multiple options, because that would be a better method.
One style, no way. Next, you'll be expecting people to only play one faction, or something! :D

I might have phrased that badly. I think they do fine moving first. So they fit half the ace option.
In the context of what you're asking. I'm an ace man, through and through! I just hate relying on moving last so try to avoid that trap
I selected control though I like to combine it with loose swarms. Even if an ability on one of my pilots is range 1 only. Use it when you can but don't give them a tight formation to toss stuff into.
Im not stuck on one style. I like aces and swarms, sometimes synergies.

I don't see a "WAAAGH!" option, so I don't feel accurately represented in this survey
I like the Hammer and Anvil approach...
i like a mix of arc dodging and control.

What list have you had most success with thus far? I've tried Lando with Luke as support but it has been tough going with large base atm.

Also no Soontir Fel option, 0/10 survey.

Dash didn't turn out well, and I have tried the Ghost but not as your traditional fat centerpiece. That's not its place anymore, it's better used as a damage sink. That's how I'm using it here:

Big tanky rage-drawing wall.
tl;dr, For fat turrets, try Han, and Leebo also looks promising but I haven't tried him yet. Dash has not been great for me. The Ghost is not what it once was.
Edited by NpmartianI usually like an Ace with friends. How it plays out depends on the friend. Sometimes it can be an all Ace build, or a salad of other designs.
One common theme is an Ace and a Brawler (my term for stuff that jousts in a heavy hitting way - Justin Phua’s 1.0 TelGar worlds list features two brawlers for example). I like this format because it forces the enemy to play into the joust and have the Ace flank from the side, or they chase the Ace and he leads them into a trap where they have to deal with the brawler.
Bombs all the way as means of damage, area denial and board control. Even though their effectiveness has reduced a little in 2.0 due to having to predict your opponent’s maneuvers more accurately, I’m finding nym, proton bombs, seismic charges and proximity mines all very enjoyable to play.
Hm...I didn't see an option for "3-5 mid-to-low-initiative pilots randomly thrown together".
Generally Ace + Mini Swarm for me !
Invalid poll, "Crappy" isn't on there.

Squadrons that rely on range 1 synergies and joust in big blocks. Pretty much as WAAAAAGH!!!!! as it gets
I also kind of agree with the Bruce Lee GIF. Swarms should be without form[ation].
