I've been trying to build a new deck for my absolute favorite investigator, Lola Hayes. I ran I to something that I'm not super sure about when making the deck. Can I play Dr. Elli and grab The Cthonian Stone? If I do can I still seal a token? I think I can because Elli attaches the card and I don't play the card and then I am pretty sure I can seal it as is isn't an action. I could find anything searching Google these forums or Arkhamdb but I totally could have missed it so sorry if it's been asked!
Lola Hayes and Dr Elli
Hi @Goshiu, so I went onto the Discord and checked with the rules maestros there. They say it's absolutely fine to do that: since you're not 'playing' or 'putting into play' the relic, the relic can be of any faction. And yes, you'd fetch a token to seal in the case of The Chthonian Stone!
Thank you so much!!!

<pedantry> I'd say you are "putting into play" the Stone, per the definition of "Attach to". But "put into play" is also explicitly defined as not "playing", so it isn't restricted by Lola's abilities anyway. </pedantry>
Yeah, I actually pushed back on that. It's a tricky distinction. Also complicated by whether seal, as an additional cost, means that you're then *playing* the card... it's tricky.
It is tricky.
Is Seal a cost? I don't think it is. It's a constant ability, unaffected by Lola. The only kinds of cost are resource costs and ability costs, the latter of which are only defined for triggered abilities.
Edit: Nah, I rescind that. Seal is defined as a cost. However, it is a cost to "enter play", which does not imply being played.
Edited by CSerpentI mean, you're obviously "putting into play" the Stone, since it's going from an out-of-play state to an in-play state. Lola's ability, doesn't restrict "putting into play," so it's not relevant to her. She could also use Sleight of Hand to put the Stone into play, albeit temporarily.
