Tie Swarm

By Bigstevo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Have wanted to try and fly a tie swarm since 1.0 but am clueless when I comes to swarms.

Would this be a good start?

(1) Crack Shot
Points 41

(30) Del Meeko

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I ran something similar to this yesterday at a store tournament and went 3-1. My list was:

Howlrunner with Swarm Tactics (43)

Iden Versio (40)

Gideon Hask (30)

Del Meeko (30)

Seyn Marana with Marksmanship (31)

Night Beast (26)

Total : 200

I've found that Crackshot, being limited to the Bullseye arc, is hard for me to use. Inferno Squad has great synergy with each other, especially Gideon and Seyn. Marksmanship and Seyn are a match made in heaven and, like American Express, she should never be deloyed without it. Night Beast, being Howlrunner's wingman, seemed like a natural fit for this squad. Alternatively you could drop the talents and replace Night Beast with Wampa but I think the change would lessen the squad's effectiveness.

I've played a very similar list (Seyn with Marksmanship instead of Gideon) a few times and found the mix of I3 and I4 to be awkward for maneuvering. So I'm planning to back to the "standard" Howl elite swarm of Howl, Iden, Seyn, Del Meeko, Gideon, Wampa all without upgrades.

I do like @AlexBeezle 's Whisper Sloane swarm. I've thought about trying Whisper + Sloane and six Academies, but Howl + 4 Academies and leaving room for Juke on Whisper seems like a great option.

I’ve been doing pretty well of late with just Howl, Iden and five Academies. It’s a great way to learn the importance of movement order and blocking, and I’m not convinced that an elite swarm is more effective overall (although it probably does have the advantage one on one because of the damage being more front-loaded.

For an elite swarm, I would favour Howl, Iden, Wampa, Marksmanship Seyn, a Black Squadron with Crack Shot and either Mauler or Scourge. Plenty of extra dice and some tough target priority, with less reliance on remaining in formation. I want to like Night Beast but without a talent slot for Juke the ability to stack focus and evade seems a bit meh.

I really liked Crack Shot in 1.0.

In 2.0 I find it triggers far less. I've gone with six named pilots and had better luck.
