First game tonight! Any tips? Suggestions?

By Eldil, in Android

I punched out all the bits last night, and I'm looking forward to playing the hell out of this game tonight. We're going to be running with four players.

I've read the rules, and will have read them again by tonight, and one of the other players has read the rules, and the other two are going in blind.

Any tips, hints or suggestions for the first game? Any commonly forgotten rules or commonly overlooked actions?

Make sure your players bring patience. That's what went wrong with my first game. Android is so complex that you need to lay some groundwork before you can jump into the action.

Also it is prudent to organize your markers and counters. I built small paper boxes and sorted them according to their general usage (Evidence, Conspiracy, Unique, one box per detective with all their allies and hero markers, etc.). This speeds up the token-finding and game setup process.

I did the exact same thing, with ziploc bags. Ahh. One day, we will form an OCD army, and our soldiers will march in perfect formation, precisely ordered by age, height, and hair color.

In case anyone was curious, the first game went extremely well. Everyone had a great time; it was a four player game with Louis, Raymond, Floyd and Caprice. Although during the first week it looked like Floyd was going to win, Caprice wound up scoring the guilty hunch, and Raymond won the game by linking up the conspiracy puzzle to an insane degree.

If you're interested, I've posted a more in-depth session report here .

Excellent session report

Agreed, thanks a bunch for that write up. I was wondering how best to explain the rules for my first gaming session today (I am the only one who knows the rules) and this bit of insight looks like a perfect approach:

"There’s at least three games going on here, concurrently. There’s the murder game, the conspiracy game, and the plot game. Watch for who is playing which game."
