Descending to charity

By JusticeLizard, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Last year to raise money for the children's hospitals charity Extra-Life, I challenged myself to playing a LotT lcg campaign in one sitting. And although my fellowship fell apart at the Black Gate, we did succeed in the goal of gaming for 24 hours.

This year, as part of the 24 hours, a friend and I want to do a Road to Legend campaign. I was working if any one has advice or suggestions. What classes would work well 2 player? Is there any components I should avoid for difficulty reasons, or should I through in everything to keep it interesting? I have all the boxes, plus the lieutenant packs for the core set baddies and the dragon. Any thoughts are welcome, and if your felling generous here is a link to donate.

For 2 heroes I always enjoy Steelhorns because his ability can work no matter how many attacks I'm performing. This adds up to a lot over a campaign using the extra attack rule. He's swell as a knight, but also as a skirmisher or champion (though I find champion less helpful in 2 hero games because multi-valor never happens. "Each other hero" = "the other guy.")

Unfortunately I didn't get any of hero/monster packs, cause I had all the 1st edition stuff and conversion kit. How do people feel about house ruling the conversion characters?

I'd say pick whichever works best- if you're happy with the stats and setup as per the conversion kit go with that or if you think they're inbalanced and over or under powered you can ask on here what the stats etc for that character are on the h&m pack version of the card, then go with whichever you feel is best balanced. There's some discussion of this on here if you do some digging around in the discussions.

Thanks for the info. One more question as things draw near;

The few times I've done a Road to Legend campaign, we always had 4 heroes. At least one player picked a healer. Knowing myself and my friend, how viable is a no healer party? Could I use a scout who loots a lot, and rely on potions?

If you're playing Road to Legend with only two heroes remember you can choose to recover two hearts at the end of each turn if you don't use the free attack, so you probably could get away without a healer.

I wouldn't necessarily make one of your heroes a dedicated looter to go for potions though, since searching is much less useful in Road to Legend than in the normal campaigns - it probably hurts you more than just taking a healer in the first place...

I would probably recommend taking the Apothecary - you get a 3rd attack skill for only 2XP, and the Elixirs provide decent healing which you can save up and use when you need it...

As for your 2nd hero, pick a Warrior or a Mage, depending on your preference for being able to take a load of damage or trying to hit hard enough there's nothing left to hit you back ?
