Damage deck question

By Mcpolle, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Fuel leak and Hull breach, if you pull more than one crit, and the first one you pull is one of these, do you resolve them already, or is it next turn? basically crit damage taken, are they taken seperatelyor all at once??

Thx

Seperately; you resolve them as soon as they’re revealed & condition is met.

Damage is dealt and resolved one at a time. So, if you're unlucky enough to pull a fuel leak first, the rest are gonna hurt.

Last game I played, I dealt four damage with two crits from a bomb, thanks to a Fuel Leak and a Direct Hit. :D

Side note: hull breach is less likely to immediately stack, since you deal hits before crits. Though, it can still trigger off things like Fuel Leak and Direct Hit.

Hull Breach, then Direct Hit --> Direct Hit --> Direct Hit --> Direct Hit --> Direct Hit

(remember to shuffle your deck, kids!) ;)

All five direct hits... ouch.

Theoretically, you can get 12 damage from two source crits.

Fuel Leak + Hull breach > (direct hit + anything) x 5

I got it wrong.

Am I understanding this correct?

when suffering a direct hit, the card counts as two hits. Does that mean the second hit is also a crit?

Direct Hit makes you suffer a [damage]. But hull breach then makes you suffer a [critical damage] instead. If that new crit is another Direct Hit, as in @emeraldbeacon 's example, it'll do it again.

My 12 damage example is wrong, though. I neglected to account for fuel leak repairing itself after the first time it triggers.

I think the most damage you can take from two initial crits is 8:
Fuel Leak + Hull Breach > Direct Hit > Direct Hit > Direct Hit > Direct Hit > Direct Hit > [Some other crit]

Unless someone can find a longer chain?

There are currently only three ships in the game that could survive that hit (six if they have hull upgrades)! that chain would be nuts if it actually happened.

Technically, if you have all four Fuel Leaks and a Hull Breach face-up, a single crit that turns into a 5-chain Direct Hit would earn you 10 damage cards. The first critical damage (1), a Direct Hit, would trigger all four of the Fuel Leaks (+4), then the Direct Hits would all chain off of one another (+4), leading to a final critical damage card that SHOULDN'T be able to create even MORE damage.

How do you suggest getting four fule leaks faceup without triggering them? I suppose Thane Kyrell could pull it off over four turns of attacking and not dealing any crits, any other ways to expose those without dealing them?

Rexler, Novice Tech, Concussion Missiles, R2D2 crew... there are a bunch.

It would be immensely hard to pull off, true, but it's TECHNICALLY possible, due to effects that expose damage cards, rather than dealing critical damage.

I was looking at it from the perspective of two crits just on their own (the minimum number required to cause any sort of chain reaction). Obviously, by adding more existing crits, you could do more. :D
