Are You Team Nerf ? or Team Puzzle?

By Boom Owl, in X-Wing

After you see something for the first few times do you assume it should be point adjusted up or nerfed because its good or feels difficult to play against? Or do you try to solve the puzzle?

If your both...are you more one than the other?

I am team buff.

Team puzzle. But at times, a nerf is necssary beyond all design choices. I.e., ghost fenn.

When faced with opposing viewpoints, do you correctly try to understand the other side and have a real discussion, or do you ask biased questions to paint your side as superior?

I puzzle it out as far as I can, then see if others do better or worse and go with that, then depending on the difficulty of the puzzle decide for myself if it's maybe necessary to adjust.

I love a good strong puzzle. But for a game you share with others, it's important that the challenge of the puzzle meet a kind of average of difficulty that all the players (or at least the largest majority possible) can enjoy. The puzzle should also have multiple solutions which is super important. And if there aren't enough solutions, that are too be found by the most players available, then I will be wearing the Nerf bat jersey and screaming from season pass seats on the side lines.

Other: Team Table-flip.

All opposing viewpoints are wrong and thus inferior to my own. Paint is unnecessary.

Mostly team puzzle, but passively team nerf. By passively team nerf I mean, I don't have anything bigger than a local kit/wave event until 2019, so I fully expect things like Redline and bombers to get a points adjustment. Based on that assumption, I'm not going to bother playing with them nor against them, because who knows how they'll fit after a points adjustment?

@JJ48 makes a really good point. Your question pointedly calls out anyone who is on the nerf side.

Correct answer! You win the Internet!

Course, @JJ48 , you've asked a biased question as well, particularly with the word "correctly" thrown in there.

Also agree with JJ. The topic question had built in bias generation.

Yes. That was intentional to make a point.

That was the point bro ? Highlight the offender by making a worse offense. It's one of the pillars of sarcasm ?

Don't you bro me, brah! Isn't brah the properly parlance now?

If we keep going, we could ruin the thread before it even goes anywhere.

Unfortunately, tone doesn't often transmit well online, and it can be very difficult to tell if someone is being intentionally ironic to make a point, is being ironic just to troll, or honestly can't see the hypocrisy.

LMAO ? BRAH! ?

THREAD DERAILED! HELM FULL STOP! RETURN TO TOPIC! ENGAGE THE TABLE FLIP DRIVE FULL POWER!

@JJ48 Is true. Text is weak sauce communication ? but emojis add some flair ? and their cute! ?

The best is when you line up two that look like they are interacting with each other

? ? "What did you do?"..."I don't know what your talking about"

Puzzle. Including when I accidentally do something right, like win. I assume it could be anomalous, and search for variance or opponent error.

Team nerf

- + 8 points Han gunner

- remove sensor slot from punisher

- -? A-wings b- wings

-

Sensible point adjustments and slot changes are a good idea that don't impact the pilots or upgrades as much as actual wording changes.

Hopefully we don't have actual nerfs beyond that. I don't think there's anywhere that we need to completely change wording on card or in rules except to make things clearer (Qi'ra being one that seems especially confusing, and putting the word "bonus" on various things that allow attacks).

Puzzle rises, and nerf to meet it.

Depends on "the thing". Those dark couple weeks where Genuis + Trajectory Nym was starting to reach a critical mass of doom I was unable to solve the puzzle. I was definitely on "Team Nerf". If something just has a glaring and abusive mechanic that just completely destroys the ability for most players to enjoy the game it needs to be addressed.

But for a lot of other things...life finds a way.

Puzzle 90% of the time, Nerf 10%
