GenCon events

By lars16, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

since the event list is out, the AGoT LCG events are listed even though FFG hasn't officially announced them yet.

According to the event list these are the events and dates/times

Melee Champ = Aug 5 10:00am

Joust Champ = Aug 6 10:00am

2 on 2 Team event (whoa!) = Aug 7 10:00am

Legacy Highlander = Aug 7 4:00pm

Kingsmoot = Aug 8 10:00am

They are also having an LCG Triathalon event on Aug 6 4:00pm where you play all three LCGs not sure how it works but sounds cool.

I like that FFG is getting creative with the events with new formats, the triathalon and putting in kingsmoot on sunday. They also have a 3 on 3 event for Warhammer and a new format for them so its nice to see them opening it up.

It's awesome that there will be an official 2v2 tournament. Now I really want to try and go to GenCon.

Friday Worlds (~sorry, can't say another format should count...), that should be interesting. Points for all formats I am assuming, that should make the overall winner much different.

Obviously, Joust is the biggest, most important event. Perhaps the only game that matters in "the only game that matters," but I think the other variations can still be and are a lot fun. I was just excited about 2v2 as I think it can be just about as competitive and mind-wrenching as the other formats. It brings synergy to a whole new level and I find that rather fresh and exhilarating.

I've never been to GenCon, but haven't they had Legacy before? That didn't count to overall points, right? I would think that only Joust and Melee would, but what do I know :P

This weekend our meta did a preliminary count of the number of players we plan on bringing to compete in the Gencon events.

We counted 9 of us. Yes, you heard that right. At this time, the Springfield, Missouri meta is planning on bringing nine players to compete in the World Championships at Gencon.

So I'm laying down the gauntlet. Is there any meta that can rival us in total members? Is there any meta that wants to challenge us in overall performance? Just a reminder, last year we had two of the top four in the Melee and two of the top four in Joust. We aren't just bringing quantity, we are bringing quality.

Hang on, I gotta go drink a lot of crystal lite ice tea....that stuff makes me pee for hours.

You realize then that if I can make gencon and not only keep a hold of my deck (I think I'm going to build 3 duplicate copies just to make sure... :-P ), but also manage to beat all of you... what sort of theme would it be... 300? Rambo? Remind me to bring a red bandanna this just feels epic.

(Granted a more likely and more humorous outcome is me ending 0-X since I just jinxed myself.)

However I encourage anyone going alone to Gencon to rambo it up.

And Lars I have a bowl so DO NOT POINT THAT AT ME.

If Steve (TheMountainThatRides?) ends up driving, I'll likely go. I think that would make four from our meta...just enough to sweep the top four. ~Missouri better pray that Steve can't go that weekend ;)

Sounds like Valar Midwestous is going to sweep GenCon this year, amiright ?!

Ok now that I'm topped up:

we have 4 as well, a previous Highlander champ who also placed 2nd in melee to Tzu. A not as freshfashed sophomore who now knows not to let greg beat him in the last round before cuts, Old Bear w/ the infectious laugh, and of course myself who expects to be trounced by MWnK and Misinformation.

Events we will be in:

Melee = 4

Highlander = 2

2v2 = probably 2

Joust = 2-4

Kingsmoot = not finalized but i believe 4

If you think you can sweep you might have to go through one of us (~terrifying!!!!)

It might hurt attendance slightly that the Melee Worlds are on Thursday and the Joust is on Friday, but I strongly believe that both events will have about a 50% increase in attendance over last year. I think we could see 32 at each event based on the preliminary polling I've done.

Yup, I'm expecting a really good turnout this year. Unfortunately, I think you won't see me in the 2v2 tournament as I'm very strongly looking at playing in the Warhammer World Championship on that day.

I think NYC will have a couple representatives this year (Fatmouse, anyone traveling with you?), which I don' think was the case last year. So, both quantity and *quality* should increase this year over last. lengua.gif (Why contain the smack talk to the San Fran vs NYC thread?)

I'm not sure yet if I'm going, but a valiant effort will be made to attend. RedTerror is striving to make attendance as well.

I'd be psyched to see some NYC'ers at GenCon. LGR, Stag any possibilites??

Not in the cards (yes, I just made a horrible pun). I'd have to be a much better husband to get the green light for GenCon. preocupado.gif lengua.gif

That's why it's a business trip. A wife can't say no to work, right?
