Vader + Redline + ?

By Rettere, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm looking for some advice on the following. I love running supernatural vader but struggling on what to run with him. Lots of swarms in my area so bombs are on my list, but once redline is built up it doesn't leave much room for anything else. Jendon is the main question mark here - getting locks early for Vader and Redline is nice, and having the shuttle as a big beefy "shoot me" target is enticing but would I be better served with 2 Academy Pilots? Or maybe Sabacc with a shield upgrade? Advice Needed!

Darth Vader — TIE Advanced 70
Supernatural Reflexes 12
Fire-Control System 3
Ship Total: 85
“Redline” — TIE Punisher 44
Trajectory Simulator 3
Proton Torpedoes 9
Proton Bombs 5
Seismic Charges 3
Ship Total: 64
Colonel Jendon — Lambda-Class Shuttle 46
Ship Total: 46

Well, You have 51 points to play with, less if you want a bid. Redline has a free lock ability, so Jendon does little to help.

You could do Tomax in the bomber with crack shot, proton torps, and proton bombs. That would be 49 points and give you 2 I5 torps for a strong alpha strike.

Sigma Squadron Ace with Juke is the best 50 pt option in the game, IMO. Decent Hull/Shields, good maneuverability and compliments almost anything except flying in formation.

So, naturally (or...dare I say...supernaturally), your Vader is perfect and Redline is an excellent friend for him.

I find building Redline to be a real pickle. I DEFINITELY think he NEEDS AdSen - if he bumps or has to pull a red, which he will, he becomes useless without them. You want to throw bombs? Use Deathrain. He's made for it.

So that leaves the question of what to put on Red. Protorps are always tempting, but if for some reason he lasts longer than a couple shots, he has to spend time reloading, which is annoying. So I like Barrage Rockets or Concs.

That leaves you with 57 points. Soontir could fit, but with 2 expensive arc dodgers, I'd be worried you're getting too fragile. I think that Vynder is a FANTASTIC choice here. With OS-1, FCS, AdProTorps, and Concs, you have a pleasantly tough, remarkably agile, hard hitting little piece.

I think Fel fits perfectly, but you have to use strategy. Fel is fragile, Vader and Redline are your early powerhouses. Keep Fel in reserve, running and dodging early, then commit him late game, once the opponent is on the ropes.

“Redline” — TIE Punisher 44

If you want to run the 85 point Supernatural Vader and Redline I may suggest a different load out for Redline and then add Whisper.

TIE/ca Punisher - •“Redline” - 58
•“Redline” - Adrenaline Junkie (44)
Advanced Sensors (8)
Barrage Rockets (6)

TIE/ph Phantom - •“Whisper” - 56
•“Whisper” - Soft-Spoken Slayer (52)
Juke (4)

TIE Advanced x1 - •Darth Vader - 85
•Darth Vader - Black Leader (70)
Fire-Control System (3)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)

Total: 199/200

This comes in at 199, and has all the fun things you want and each ship can be effective on their own.

OK here's my new list - a little bit of everything from the comments you guys have given me, and a 6pt bid to boot:

Darth Vader (70)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)
Fire-Control System (3)

“Deathrain” (42)
Trajectory Simulator (3)
Barrage Rockets (6)
Proton Bombs (5)
Seismic Charges (3)

Sigma Squadron Ace (46)
Juke (4)

A new revision after seeing how great collision detector and Vermeil are. Now I'm just looking for a way to fit a bit of a bid in there. Only way seems to be dropping the bombs (no pun intended).

Darth Vader (70)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)
Collision Detector (5)

“Redline” (44)
Trajectory Simulator (3)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
Proton Bombs (5)
Seismic Charges (3)

Major Vermeil (49)

Total: 200

Flew this yesterday and it was fantastic. Reminiscent of Vader HLC Boats. Two 4 dice chuckers with Vader. Vynder doesnt suffer from low init locks because he can cover vast amounts of space.

Darth Vader (70)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)
Fire-Control System (3)

Major Vynder (41)
Trick Shot (1)
Fire-Control System (3)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
Advanced SLAM (3)
Os-1 Arsenal Loadout (0)

“Redline” (44)
Proton Torpedoes (9)

Total: 195

Started vynder and redline in opposite corners. Slammed Vynder to flank and double torped enemy going after redline, then Vynder just 1 forwards and torps, 1 banks and reloads and torps again. Redline dies and opponent chases vader and vynder slams away and reloads, slams around and torps. I got 4 proton torps off and reloaded a 5th before enemy was dead.

Not sure if Vader is the best ace for these two, but 91pts is either Vader or else Whisper + Academy or Sabaac + Sai or something. Think Vader is the better option
