Forgotten Age cycle

By CaffeineAddict, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Away in a hotel this week, but luckily just before I left, I got City of Archives and Depths of Yoth delivered, so I've spent the last couple of evenings in the hotel playing Arkham.

I like how they keep doing innovative things with the scenario design. Forgotten Age has been quite a brutal cycle so far (I've never accumulated so much trauma before), but the design really is top notch.

The explore mechanic has been a great addition.

Looking forward to the conclusion in Shattered Aeons.

I'm playing Calvin, and between his campaign traumas and his Voice of the Messenger, I am now starting the last scenario with 1 health and 3 sanity remaining.

If things get dire, I will go out in a flame of glory. I'm packing an I'll see you in ****; maybe Ursula and Finn will just scrape by if I can buy them some time.

That is... if I don't take a physical trauma in the opening of the scenario.

Good luck!

I'm excited to see Shattered Aeons, but I have a feeling (what with the 'prologue' included in the next deluxe) that there are gonna be some pretty cool things coming in a The Circle Undone.

I'm pretty amazed sometimes how diverse the scenarios can be while staying true to the core mechanics. I am very glad that I decided to jump in on this game from the beginning. It's been an exciting experience seeing how the game develops.

FA has been particularly brutal, but Arkham Files games gets you comfortable with dying as a pretty typical experience, so it is what it is. I just hope I don't go out in the first round because it's probably absolutely possible at this point.

Sometimes I just love the narrative ridiculousness of Arkham Horror.
Having not previously played it, I decided to play Carnivale of Horror as a side adventure during my Forgotten Age campaign.

So...having descended into the depths of Yoth, pursued by serpents in the dark, approaching the glowing light....my investigators decided to pop out to Venice for a bit of Carnivale fun. They'll be back later. Leave the light on.

I'm playing two-handed with Ursula and Matteo, and defeated Carnivale by defeating the big monster, while staying one step ahead of the hunters that were after me.

Matteo had shrivelling, and Ursula had the Ornate Bow, so they were running round Venice, pursued by hunters, firing arrows and slinging spells at the big bad.
On a side note, Ursula running around firing a bow and arrow was surprisingly effective, and felt very Lara Croft.

Killed a bunch of enemies, so the three XP cost was offset by gaining four, plus two extra for Ursula, as she's got Charon's Obol (yes, she's a bit suicidal), and now I've got some shiny masks to help with the final scenario.

Must be getting back to those caves, now.

Yeah, a little side-trip to Venice between Paris and Mont-Saint-Michel makes great sense. But there's really no plausible way to sandwich it between any of the Forgotten Age scenarios from Heart of the Elders onward. You might as well put it between Where Doom Awaits and Lost in Time and Space.

For storytelling purposes you could always say it was a flashback to an earlier adventure. I know not super consistent, but there are aspects of the basic gameplay that definitely aren't super thematically consistent anyways. Such as an important Ally suddenly appearing in the middle of Depths of Yoth - "Why Dr. Milan Christopher, what are you doing down here in these remote, forsaken caverns?" :D

That makes perfect sense. You have stepped beyond the boundaries of mortal perception, to a realm where time and space have no meaning. Thus, why shouldn't you end up in Venice? Yog-Sothoth is in all places, Venice included.

See, we did this much more logically. We saved Professor Morgan, talked to Armitage, went to burn the Necronomicon, concluded that the cult was forever decidedly defeated and went to party in Venice to celebrate saving the universe.

Not really. Mont-Saint-Michel is to the west and slightly north of Paris, while Venice is much farther and to the southeast, so it's a very big detour.

The more logical time is between The Unspeakable Oath and A Phantom of Truth, where there's a big time gap between the two and no apparent urgency to get to Paris, so it makes perfect sense that you'd look into Venice with the tip-off from the Arkham constabulary before taking the train to Paris.
