250 Points

By Elliphino, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Played a 250 point game tonight and I think that may actually be the sweet spot of the game.

It was easier to build lists, easier to activate some of the interesting dynamics of the game such as synergies between units, used much more of the realestate and so terrain was more interesting, and it wasn't overwhelming in terms of units to manage or fit on the board.

Anyway, I thought it played better than 200 points. Give it a try if you haven't.

I definitely shall. Got m'self more than 100 trays already so definitely a good idea to try them all

Definitely - I'm hoping to try a 300pt game. At 200pts there are just so many difficult sacrifices to make... I guess that's one of the things that keeps it competitive, but hey.

I'd love to see a new unit category, like epic siege units, or flying units which are only available in games of a new points tier (e.g. 300pts).

I agree, it sort of feels like the game is at an evolutionary point where a higher point level and something new would be a welcome change.

300 actually seems a bit high to me. Maybe for a one-off game here and there, but once there start to be more than 6 or 7 units on the table, the game slows down considerably.

It does slow down early on, but once units collide, it picks back up really fast.

The big difference at 300 points is you end up with layered tactics. You can field disposable units to block and set up flank charges, and you layer your attack and defense.

At 200 points I frequently run 8 units. At 300 points, I run 8 to 12 units.

I tried a 300 point game tonight with a friend as well.

Pretty cool in my opinion. The 3x9 battelfield was not too small, but we both ran a spearstar / deadstar. It could be a bit crowded with 12 units, but then, they are smaller.

This actually makes my wonder how a 2vs2 game (say at 150 points each) would go.

We’re playing a 2v2 300 pt game tonight (we make the big lists for each side and then divvy up who wants to run what). Interesting idea to go with a 3x9 battlefield Chaoticus - we’re using a 4x6 mat but may need to find a way to go wider next time.

With 300 points, I would likely be fielding almost 12 units by myself.

My mistake. I meant the standard 3x6. Nothing special here.

We had 7 units each in that 300 pt game. Definitely not overcrowded.
