Regionals Dates and Locations

That's the cap I've been given so far, but the owner is considering increasing it if there is enough demand. I can't promise that we'll go above 24, though.

We are setting aside as much floor space as necessary for this tournament to run smoothly — I believe there won't be any other events that day so we have quite a few tables to work with. As an Armada player and long-time lurker on this forum, I know this is a premier event for the Pacific NW Armada community. Therefore, Red Castle Games is dedicated to making it a memorable, and most importantly, well-supported Regional Championship.

Well, @shmitty knows the numbers best, but I think that if you aim at 24, you will not be far off from saturation - by which I mean that you'll be able to accommodate everyone who wants to show up.

But, I'd ask the owner if some night after hours, you and he can set up the playing space to see how many that floor space can actually accommodate. While there are those two awesome tall tables (your 'top tables', for the 'top 4 contenders'), putting out those 4x4 plywood table-toppers will eat your real estate pretty quick. Not only do they have to fit, but people will have to move around them without knocking things around too much.

I never had to fit that many for Armada, because I never ran a Regional there, but I did run a couple of store championships for X-Wing. So, I have a sense of how quickly the space fills up with the table-toppers, the people, and all the people's stuff. Thank goodness you have fewer people per square footage than with X-Wing, and thank goodness (to a degree) Armada is less popular than X-Wing, but I think it will still be valuable for you to actually do the layout beforehand.

Just my two cents.

Again, I wish I could be there - and I think it's awesome that RCG is getting you to run it as a staffer! Best wishes!

That is an excellent idea, thank you. And thank you for the well wishes!

2018 PORTLAND REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Red Castle Games will be hosting a 2018 Armada Regional Championship on Saturday, December 8th . This is the first time Red Castle has been awarded an Armada Regional by FFG and we're very excited to be your hosts for such a prestigious event.

WHO AM I?

My name is Matt, and I'm the new Events Coordinator at Red Castle Games. While I'm not much of an Armada tactician, I do have a long history of running tournaments and other special events in Portland, as well as bringing people together to play with their toys and creating gaming communities where none previously existed. In other words, I'm a far better host than I am a player ?

You should totally post this in the Portland-area Armada FB group.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/SWArmadaPDX/

So far, only the Vancouver event is listed...

Measured everything out this morning and we can accommodate 24 players. If there's high enough demand we may institute a wait list to go beyond 24, but that gets a bit tight. I aim to have the preregistration online payment set up soon. In the meantime, I'll leave you with this...

Red Castle Games is shooting for the STARs on our first Armada Regional, so we're going to SUPER size the prize pool.

Oh, bless your heart, I guess you're not too conversant in Southern slang.

Has there been any news for regionals in California?

Exquisite.

There will likely be a caravan driving down from the Seattle area (to say nothing of @Maturin and the Vancouver, BC crew), so details for reserving spots in advance would be great, when you get to that point!

Absolutely. I’ll be doing my best to round up some folks to head down south.

No - I've been searching and can't find any info anywhere. Which is concerning.

Similarly, doesn't appear to be any murmurs of any regionals in the Midwest area. Which is very different from past years where we've had big turnout Regionals, but also not all that surprising, I guess, given that pretty much every local community I'm aware of in the tri-state region seems to have gone radio silent on Armada over the past year. Still hoping someone will post up a notification that they're hosting one, but I guess I shouldn't be holding my breath.

Really digging deep to find negativity here bud.

Which midwest tri-state region?

This is Game Cafe in Independence, MO:

There will almost certainly be one in Omaha, Minneapolis, and ChicagoLand. But "midwest" is a pretty broad definition, so I may not be helping you out specifically.

Ah, fair, the Midwest does tend to mean different things, and all said and done it's probably possible to put almost a third of the States into "the Midwest." I'm thinking of the "Rust Belt" notion of Midwest, I suppose, with Ohio, MI, PA in mind.

I really miss when FFG used to put up websites with all the confirmed venues for Regionals.

They do. They just haven't yet - probably for the same reason that many stores haven't announced their regionals. Because they aren't confirmed yet.

It’s been mentioned a few times, that past incidences have had the announcement date be ::December::, and we’re not even in November yet...

Its typical for November events to announce themselves.

@AllWingsStandyingBy I know of at least one place in Columbus that applied for a regional. I wouldn't mind heading out to Springfield for one if they get one.

It's too bad your area has had a downturn in Armada, but that doesn't represent everywhere else in Ohio, or the Midwest.

If you want to get more people in the game, I suggest putting yourself out there and trying to grow the community.

Been there, done that. When the game first launched I ran multiple demo / learn to play events at the FLGS, and for about three years thereafter I ran all of the kits, store champs, and Correlian Conflicts in town. Hard to believe now, I'm sure, but I used to be quite the cheerleader and community organizer for this game.

Lol as someone that lives in MO it's so weird for me to hear people refer to PA as midwest. I'm pretty sure if you were one of the OG 13 colonies you're not allowed to be counted as midwest :P

Ohio used to be referred too as the northwest back in the early 1800s...

which made sense seeing as the louisiana purchase happed in the (very) early 1800's.

I live in PA and never heard of PA as being Midwest.
