Plenty of GW, but there's just no way that I'm going to let myself get dragged into that again.

I've been playing kill team, it's my compromise. FFG is driving me nuts by not putting out much for Armada but I don't really feel like caring about large scale 40k again ( I started playing in 3rd and played HARDCORE from the start of 5th through 6th) but Killteam allows me to not have to buy any new models (other than the ones I feel like for kicks) but still take part in a game that's, currently, supported.

/shrug, I was more jelly about the governmental/socioeconomic structure of that area. it feels like the EU in general is of the few organizations in the world currently going in the right direction and that area specifically seems to have it figured out. there's always online gaming :)

I'm hoping to convert the local GW heathens to the TRUE FFG Faith, rather than succumb to their barbarism. (It'll help if FFG also proves to be faith-worthy.)

I'm not too inclined to get more of my gaming fix online, but we'll see how desperate I get during those long Scandinavian winter months.

I teach a college course on the EU. (Well, occasionally I do. I'm my department's understudy for teaching that class.) There is a lot the EU does right, but there is also a lot the EU does wrong. However, a lot really does depend on which country you're talking about. Sweden, Denmark, and Finland (also Norway and Iceland, but those aren't EU members) generally get a LOT of things right, but those things frequently don't have much to do with the EU. At the same time, they're not utopias. They're flawed human societies, just generally less flawed than elsewhere. They've also generally protected themselves from some of the EU's biggest problems.

But, yes, the socio-economic structure is one of the reasons I'm going there. I'm really tired of having working my tail off and not getting ahead. Much of this has to do with the United States' regime of work benefits and support for education.

But,... ...that is, of course, a political topic, and we don't want to have FFG shut this thread down because of a flame war. Also - Regionals is important and that's what should be discussed here. Anyone wishing to pursue the topic can PM me.

Our FLGS just got confirmation that we will be hosting an Armada Regional again this year.

December 1st - Dice Age Games - Vancouver, WA

I'd be on the lookout for more announcements soon.

Any update or event page for this yet?

Nothing "officially" put up but Shmitty is the guy that runs it. Likely he is making 100% sure before he does.

Saturday January 12, 2019

Midgard Comics and Games

Derry NH

I will be the TO for this event, more details to follow.

That’s it exactly. For a few reasons there is a change of date brewing from the one FFG initially gave us. Waiting for that to be confirmed. Should be soon.

Due to a few conflicts, the date of the Armada Regional at Dice Age games in Vancouver, WA has been changed to Jan 5th.

For all you Pacific NW (and beyond) Commanders, a second Armada Regional is coming to the Portland-Vancouver area.

I'll have further details tomorrow.

Wait there will be 2 in Vancouver/Portland?

Wait... two Regionals in Portland...?

BLhFlzUIufArt1pk3FH6kUeFxG8Ha7Z80Ncwoog_

Wait. WHAT?!?
I mean fantastic if this is true! But I'm definitely skeptical.

Wow, I might get to play!

Feel free to be skeptical, I understand. I don't post much on these forums so you guys don't know me (though I visit often and read most everything). I do, however, play a lot of Armada. Over the past year and a half I've built up a decent-sized community of players which resulted in FFG granting a second Regional in Portland. This will be the first double-Regional season for the Portland area, but hopefully not the last.

I will have the date for you tomorrow when I can discuss things in an official capacity (and more details will follow as I find out the start time, format, entry fee, etc...). I was going to wait to say something but I just couldn't keep it a secret any longer ?

And I hope you do get to play, Shmitty!

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Two regionals in the same city? Wow

Technically they are in different cities and in different states. One is in Vancouver, WA. This Regional is in Portland, OR.

They are are on opposite sides of the Columbia River. So different states, but only half hour drive apart.

And this will be Oregon's 1st true regional.

I'm totally excited.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited if I do say so myself.

This is a top priority event for us, and I'm going to do my best to make it a well-run, memorable tournament.

Lots of knowledgeable in the area. Don't be afried to seek help.

2018 PORTLAND REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Red Castle Games will be hosting a 2018 Armada Regional Championship on Saturday, December 8th. This is the first time Red Castle has been awarded an Armada Regional by FFG and we're very excited to be your hosts for such a prestigious event.

WHO AM I?

My name is Matt, and I'm the new Events Coordinator at Red Castle Games. While I'm not much of an Armada tactician, I do have a long history of running tournaments and other special events in Portland, as well as bringing people together to play with their toys and creating gaming communities where none previously existed. In other words, I'm a far better host than I am a player ?

While you won't recognize my name from any tournament reports, that doesn't mean I don't play a lot of Armada. Over the past year and a half I've been focused on growing a community of players in Portland through the Corellian Conflict expansion. So far I've hooked 10 different players on Armada, including the store owner of Red Castle Games, through campaign play. I've run 4 campaigns — all to completion — including an exhaustingly fun pair of 15-hour-long All-Out Offensives. My most recent campaign saw all the fleets grow from 300 to 500 points, was tied multiple times over the 6-month affair and went on for an incredible 6 turns (with a close-fought AOO where the score was separated by 10 or fewer points up until turn 7).

My goal for this Regional Championship is to run a welcoming and professional event that will be both fun and memorable regardless of your wins and losses. So whether you're a new cadet or a grizzled veteran, a local sector commander or a lone bounty hunter hailing from the Outer Rim, I hope you decide to join me on December 8th to blow up some plastic spaceships and make pew-pew noises while quoting Star Wars. I'll do my best to make it a great time!

P.S. Today was my first day on the job so I'm still sorting things out. I'll have further details about the format, entry fee, prizes, etc... later this week. Thanks for your patience.

There will likely be a caravan driving down from the Seattle area (to say nothing of @Maturin and the Vancouver, BC crew), so details for reserving spots in advance would be great, when you get to that point!

I am discussing with the owner of Red Castle Games (who is a big fan of Armada and has played in several CC campaigns) how many players we can accommodate for this event. I was going to cap it 24, but I may be able to increase that number. Here's my question to Shmitty and other NW tournament regulars:

How many players can I reasonably expect based on past regional attendance numbers at Dice Age Games?

Well, 5 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.

That's great news! Red Castle was my home FLGS for many years. I ran a number of tournaments there - from the pre-Wave 1 era until... um, I forget. It's been a few months.

A Regional tournament will, however, probably require the imposition of a firm cap on the amount of attendees, since table space will be a limiting factor. That means that those of you who plan to attend should probably get your spots reserved as soon as Matt/Yipe reveals the details.

I really wish that I could attend, but, well... see earlier in thread.

24! Wow, that is ambitious! Are you sure you're going to be able to fit that many?

That's the cap I've been given so far, but the owner is considering increasing it if there is enough demand. I can't promise that we'll go above 24, though.

We are setting aside as much floor space as necessary for this tournament to run smoothly — I believe there won't be any other events that day so we have quite a few tables to work with. As an Armada player and long-time lurker on this forum, I know this is a premier event for the Pacific NW Armada community. Therefore, Red Castle Games is dedicated to making it a memorable, and most importantly, well-supported Regional Championship.
