What to buy first

By LordBubba, in Star Wars: Legion

Hey guys I was thinking, about what to buy first and and minimize the cost this is how it goes two coreboxes 89$+89$ Give you a great start with playing the game. And also I calculated The points for each army. The rebels can’t go very high in points, but the imperials can go all the way to 788 points which is good enough to get you to tournament level. Now let’s talk about expansions, here we go, The first thing I thought about was the ATST.Which Soaks up a lot of points, and is 49$. And the Airspeed four the rebels. Which is 29$ Which will also soak up points. Both of those expansions will give you plenty enough to have an 800.Point List two Play local tournaments. If you want to. and then just start buying smaller expansions then in there. also I would like to see if you guys have any other on what to buy first. That’s all I have for now ?

I don't think I would go AT-ST or T-47. The speeder isn't terribly good. Mileage on the AT-ST varies. I would actually recommend going with an additional commander first (Leia / Veers), and then probably for trooper variety (Fleet / Snow).

This is exactly what I'd do as well.

If you want to play on the cheap, the heavies are value.

They're not terribly point efficient in competitive play though.

However if you’re playing friends at home, go for it! Especially if you’re fielding both armies so you’re limiting the raw efficiency versus thematic elements to them.

The first thing I bought after the core were the AT-ST and the Airspeeder and I don't regret it. I think it all depends on what's your goal. In my case, I really don't care if they are not competitive, the only thing I want with this game is having fun with my friends while looking at really cool Star Wars stuff on the table and I think those heavy units are great for that.

What’s the pros and cons of the airspeedher, and the AT-ST. just wondering????

Thanks Not competitive, because there is no tournaments in my area I don’t think. I live up in Alaska near Anchorage, have two Core sets. I’ve only had Legion for a month now. but thanks for your advice.??

I really like FFG Community,Because Everyone helps each other. Thanks guys ?

I play mostly with friends and yes while not competitve the at-st and the t-47 make the game more star warsy, I did at first also get additional bikes and at-rts so I could have some variety.

I think that's the best way to say it ?

I say core sets and additional squads is a good way to go. You can get quite a few extra squads for the price of the vehicles. Also you can add variety to your game play by having alternate squads. One type of trooper may be better suited on your table than others. I am not knocking vehicles but I recommend buying to your playing style.

To be honest I own 3 core sets 1 of each Commander an 2 of each squad type and vehicle. Not everything has been played yet but they will eventually when the scenario calls for it.

That is the best way to say.?

After your two core sets, I’d buy in this order, and ideally in these groupings to maintain balance (if you’re trying to build a complete Army for each side):

Leia and Veers — minimal investment brings you to a full 800pt army. And they both bring lots of great synergies/new command cards and general fun all around to their respective sides.

1 squad each of Fleet and Snow trooper — adds a new layer of play to your grunts.

Han and Boba —both are power houses in their own right. More command cards, more variety, more fun.

1x each Scouts and Commandos.

AT-ST/Speeder — arguablly these could go anywhere on the list. They look cool, they’re fun to play, but they’re the most expensive and least competitive at the moment.

1x bike/1x At-RT — You’ve already got two with the extra core set, but as you play more you’ll begin to realize how much fun these are to run in packs of three.

As others have said extra commander and the fleet/snows for variety would do you well

BUT

Myself and probably a lot of people got into this game to use the AtSt and snow speeder because they are cool, in the movies and have some awesome table prescense. Don't let the netlisters ruin your fun walking around going pew pew pew with the mighty AtSt.

Im hoping to use the personell expansion to replace a stormie unit leader with the officer, adding a normal stormie to bring the squad to normal strenght but freeing the stormie unit leader for another squad of stormies as you've seen in the core boxes list thread. ( without having to change basing for a normal stormie to denote rank)

problem: this expansion is not yet out, and other units which this expansion could support might be better first.

That’s a great idea.??

Whoops sorry messed up the typing.?

If it’s for fun I’d grab in this order

AT-ST & Speeder

Veers & Leia

Snow & Fleet

Han & Boba

Commandos & Scouts

First buys after the starter boxes will vary from person to person. You'll have a competitive crowd who will get what their local meta needs. You'll have the ones that will buy everything released no matter what because they love Star Wars and have that need for a grand collection and list building availability. Then there are those who will only buy one faction and stick with it. You'll have mix of these and you'll have some that don't even fall into any listed. But we all have something in common: the love of Star Wars and the models we like.

FFG gave us a list structure from which we have limits, min and max, for the different unit types. I'd start there. Take a look at your collection and see what you are missing from that structure. Take a look at the models available and see what you like. Ask yourself what are you playing for... fun? Competitive? Casual? Mix? Collector? There are plenty of resources available to know what the unit cards stats and abilities along with the upgrades are and what they can do. If you're not sure on what to get next, build some lists that look fun to you and then try them out via proxy.

You can ask 50 different people what to buy next but only one person can truly answer that - you.
