OK, here's my proposed mafia game.

Flavor:

There is growing unrest in the Republic, and many planets are threatening to slip away. The leaders of the plot agree to meet on a remote space station to conspire in secret. Isolated and alone, the various dissatisfied senators begin to negotiate, but negotiations are cut short when the body of one of their number is observed to be floating outside the conference room windows. A quick search of the station ensues, and not only do the leaders discover that they are alone, they also find that their transport has been stolen! Clearly, nefarious deeds are planned, and the senators eye each other warily as they realize that the murder(s) are among their number. . .

This is intended to be a semi-open setup. The possible roles are:

Town:

  1. x-Shot PGO – (Mafia Alignment: Town. Mafia role: One-Shot Paranoid Gun Owner) – x times per game you may send me a PM if you wish to ##Activate your ability. If you do, anybody visiting you that night is killed. This ability is used up even if you are not targeted. You win when all threats to town are eliminated.
  2. Doc – (Mafia Alignment: Town. Mafia role: Doctor) – each night you may PM me the name of one person you wish to ##Protect. You win when all threats to town are eliminated.
  3. Loyalty-Cop – (Mafia Alignment: Town. Mafia role: Loyalty-Cop) – each night you may PM me the name of one person you wish to ##Investigate. You receive an ‘innocent’ or ‘guilty’ result. You win when all threats to town are eliminated.
  4. Vanilla – (Mafia Alignment: Town. Mafia role: Vanilla Town) You win when all threats to town are eliminated.

Mafia:

  1. Goon – (Mafia Alignment: Mafia. Mafia role: Goon) – You win when the mafia controls the vote, or nothing can stop that.
  2. x-shot Strongman Goon – (Mafia Alignment: Mafia. Mafia role: One-Shot Strongman Goon) – Once per game, instead of ##killing somebody at night, you may ##obliterate them, and any protection they may have (Bullet-proof, doc, etc) doesn’t work . You win when the mafia controls the vote, or nothing can stop that.
  3. Role-blocker – (Mafia Alignment: Mafia. Mafia role: Role-blocker) – each night you may PM me the name of one person you wish to ##Block . You win when the mafia controls the vote, or nothing can stop that.

TBD (Town, Mafia, or Third Party):

  1. x-shot Poisoner – (Mafia Alignment: TBD. Mafia role: x-shot Poisoner) – x times per game you may ##Poison somebody. The night after, that person dies.
  2. Busdriver – (Mafia Alignment: TBD. Mafia role: Busdriver) – You may choose two people and swap any night actions that happen to them by sending me a pm ##Swap [target] and [target].

If the TBDs end up being third-party, they gain the ability 1-shot Bulletproof – The first time you are targeted for a night kill, if you would have otherwise died (i.e., are unprotected) the attack will have no effect.
A 3rd party's win con is to be the last one standing. Otherwise, TBDs gain the faction's win con (duh).

If I get more than 10 players, the following roles may be added:

Town:

  1. x-shot Night Vigilante – (Mafia Alignment: Town. Mafia role: One-Shot Vigilante) – x times per game you may PM me the name of one person you wish to ##Target. That person gets Night Killed. You win when all threats to town are eliminated.
  2. Tracker – (Mafia Alignment: Town. Mafia role: Tracker) – each night you may PM me the name of one person you wish to ##Track. You will receive the person to whom the target went, if there was any. Otherwise you will receive a “no result” response. You win when all threats to town are eliminated.

Mafia:

  1. Bullet-proof Goon – (Mafia Alignment: Mafia. Mafia role: Bullet-proof Goon) – You are immune to night-kills. You win when the mafia controls the vote, or nothing can stop that.
  2. Godfather – (Mafia Alignment: Mafia. Mafia role: Godfather) – when you’re investigated, you return an ‘innocent’ result to loyalty cops . You win when the mafia controls the vote, or nothing can stop that.
  3. Redirector – (Mafia Alignment: Mafia. Mafia role: Redirector) – You may choose one person and redirect any actions they may have to another by sending me a pm ##Redirect [target] to [new person]

3 rd Party:

  1. Idiot – (Mafia Alignment: Self. Mafia role: Idiot) – your victory condition is to be lynched.
  2. x-Shot Serial-Killer – (Mafia Alignment: Self. Mafia role: x-Shot Serial Killer) – x times per game you may PM me the name of one person you wish to ##eliminate. You win if you are the last one left alive.

All:

  1. Lynch- proof – (Mafia Alignment: TBD. Mafia role: Lynch-proof TBD) – You are immune to Lynches.
    May be added to any role also in the game.
  2. Vengeful – (Mafia Alignment: TBD. Mafia role: Vengeful TBD) – When you are lynched, you kill the last person to legally vote for you (i.e. the hammerer).
    May be added to either the Doc, Loyalty Cop, Tracker, or Vanilla, unbeknownst to the receiving player.

Rules shall be enforced with a  general warning the first time they are broken, then a modkill. Unless the breach is serious (quoting a PM,  for example) in which case modkill comes instantly.  

Days will be 48 hours long, Nights 24.

More or less. We know what roles are possible, but we wont know which specific ones are in the game/what the number of non-vanilla roles will be.

To expand,

The game could Include (on top of normal town) say Vigilante's and Serial Killers..

However in the game, there could be 3 Vigs and No Sks...

Semi-Opens give a bit more wiggle room for scum to fake claim roles as for all the town knows they could be that role, especially if for example, a Doc was a possible role and no one rolled it, scum could use it's existence to fake claim if they thought no one else was a doc.

Semi Opens are about knowing what roles could be out there and profiling people to see if their game fits any of the possible given roles.

If enough people would rather have an open setup, once the number of players is finalized I could post the setup.

If that is preferable to the current plan, please say so.

I also prefer semi open.

I would prefer semi-open in this case. Makes it easier for mafia to deceive people, which makes the game more fun IMO.
