X-Wing Battlereport Archive (XBA) v1.0 released

By Nehekharan, in X-Wing

The X-Wing Battlereport Archive (XBA) was created to fulfill a personal need: I wanted to search for specific battlereports on YouTube but found the search parameters and results to be very poor. I would spend a lot of time filtering through search results to find a video that was worth watching. In an effort to solve that problem for myself I began gathering meta data about X-Wing videos on YouTube. After that it was only a "small" step to create a public front-end to share all this data with the X-Wing community.

How does it work ?

XBA searches YouTube for videos that are X-Wing The Miniatures Game related. XBA then stores these videos and adds metadata and tags to them. This allows users to search for videos that meet specific criteria.

Here are some practical examples:

  • Videos involving a TIE Reaper (preview, unboxing, battlereports, ...)
  • Battlereports involving a specific archetype (ex. Punisher & TIE Interceptor)
  • Battlereports of Coruscant Invitational
  • Battlereports during a time period (eg. may 2018)
  • Videos about Firespray repaints

Searching for these specific videos directly on YouTube would be tedious or even impossible.

XBA helps you save time and centralizes all videos about the game we all love in one place.

Technology

Backend : Microsoft .Net Core, Enity Framework, SQL Server, Azure

Front-End : React

Roadmap

v1.0 is the basic functionality: searching & filtering to find specific videos.

For the next versions we plan to add a lot of features:

  • saving of specific searches
  • sharing of specific searches (url/Facebook/...)
  • community tagging (if there are tags missing or wrong)
  • submit videos (if you think a video is missing from the results)
  • + we welcome any feedback or feature requests !

This is amazing. Makes finding videos with ships that I'm interested in so easy to find. Any chance of being able to search by players?

Thanks, you can attempt searching for specific players by using the free text field on the right (search tags).
But this will only return results if the name of the player is in the title or description of the video, like a regular YouTube search, but now in combination with any other tags you already selected from the other categories.
