Many here say that 2.0 format for F/O has only one ship, the TIE fo, but...

Yes, it is the only ship announced so far for wave 2 (while Resistance gets Awing and T70).

But I would not exclude the - admittedly low - possibility that we might see a new ST era core-set, with a TIE Sf and a T70.

Or something completely different for resistance from the new cartoon, and maybe this FO interceptor. We do not know what LFL does with the series but FFG might have gotten some info. And that they therefore might hold back with pre-release articles , as to not spoil the cartoon series. Time will tell.

Isn't it a bit too close to release for another announcement now? Anyway I would expect to see a Silencer rerelease before the sf. It's a little too close in design to the fo, and we know they're going to release a new Silencer model anyway. Wouldn't be surprised to see that in Wave III.

I expect you'll be able to use all the Conversion Kit ships for FO/Resistance in Second Ed format.

You will, it was in the preview articles we saw lately for the Resistance and First Order conversion kits that all the pilots would be legal for both formats immediately.

Until they announce additional expansions or that convo kit contents can be used in the 2nd edition format, we pretty much are left assuming the TIE/FO is the only option while speculating at possibilities.

I just reread A New Order and Continuing the Fight and see no mention of the 2nd Edition format in either article (or of any formats at all). Where is it stated, exactly?

If the 2.0 format will even exist next year. Wasn't it implied that a new format (Hyperspace?) will be the official one, consisting of both new releases (including rereleases) and conversion kit stuff, which may or may not occasionally rotate?

That doesn't mean the 2nd Edition format will be removed, necessarily. It was implied that Hyperspace would be the format for certain events but possibly not all.

It seems you are right.

But if you are concerned about that, there is a simple solution. Boycot 2.0, (and hyperspace) like i do. I only play extended and will only ever participate in extended legal tournaments. I think alternative formats lead to splintering of the community, which is especially bad in regions where X-Wing is not that big.

If enough people do this, i hope the big events will remain extended, and in a year or so FFG will not bother pushing other formats anymore.

On the other hand, i would like to encourage them to promote different missions than only 200point deathmatches on tournaments, because that alone would lead to squads being good that excel in missions rather than only in bland killing off other ships.

2.0 format is dead as soon as Wave 2 drops. They announced they are replacing it with Hyperspace format, which has a limited pool of playable ships compared to Extended and is likely going to include the F/O and Resistance ships from the conversion kits.

So talking about what faction has how many ships released in 2.0 is going to be moot soon.

All I've heard is second hand information on that (since not everyone gets to go to the things).

There's no reason the two formats can't exist at the same time, as we already have the other variant formats. Until I see it official in writing, I'm going to keep speculating.

I expect a new ST Core set next year, to coincide with Episode IX. Not earlier.

Sure you can run 2.0 only store events where the only F/O ship is legal is the TIE F/O, just like you can run a store tournament that only allows Scum or bans all I6 pilots or whatever. It would be a custom format. But everything else that isn't store discretion is going to be either Extended or Hyperspace.

I may be reading into it a little, but

a separate faction, the First Order brings its own complement of starfighters to X-Wing , and veteran and new players alike can use the First Order Conversion Kit as a starting point for their First Order squadrons. This kit contains a vast array of new ship cards and tokens—including iconic pilots like Kylo Ren—along with more than 100 upgrade cards that can be combined with the TIE/fo Fighter, TIE Silencer, Special Forces TIE, and Upsilon -class Shuttle miniatures from first edition expansions to create lethal First Order squadrons as soon as this kit is released in the fourth quarter of 2018.”

New players doesn’t make sense unless they intend to legalize them right away for 2.0 format (or whatever else they’re going to call it now)

I seem to recall they advertised the other conversion kits to new players too.

That's no confirmation of anything, though.

As a way to get the old 1.0 stock moved and converted over it makes sense. First Order has the TIE/FO for the Second Edition format and hopefully gets a few more in wave 3. They'll need it.

Well, they also had paragraphs like that in the announcement articles for the other conversion kits. I wouldn't take it as confirmation of anything.

In addition to being present in the Rebel Alliance Conversion Kit , all of the Rebel Alliance ships and upgrades found in the conversion kit will be fully implemented in the X-Wing Second Edition squad-builder app at launch, giving you the opportunity to experiment with a full complement of new content. Likewise, first-time players can use the conversion kit and first edition expansions to get a feel for the game with as many different ships as possible!
