Can a ship be tractored more than once?

By Ravenhull, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I made a joke 4 tug list, and was wondering. Tug A flies up, uses its action to tractor a ship and barrel rolls it. Tug B then flies up and uses its tractor ability. I assume all this does is add another tractor token, but does not allow it to also move the target. Am I getting this right?

Yes, I am aware that it is valid for multiple tugs to work together to tractor a medium or large ship.

Yep, you've got it right. A ship becomes tractored when it has the appropriate number of tractor tokens. Continuing to add additional tokens after that has no effect.

Part of me wanted to be wrong just so I could juggle the enemy, but alas. On the other hand, looking at the 2e Quad, it just says ‘choose a ship’, so I could use one of tugs to shift a friendly, though at the cost of the defense dice reduction.

Yup, as in 1e.

Risky but could be useful. Same go for Lattz Razzi's pilot ability since you can lock friendlies (just not itself, I don't want to start confusion over that), so she can spend her lock on a friendly to put it in a better position. :) Risky as I said, but that's what Scum's about.

I think I have to disagree based on the rules. Seems to me that tractoring a ship multiple times is possible if they are done through separate actions/effects. Doesn't say you can't tractor it again. That newly applied tractor token now means it's greater than the specific number of tokens needed.

"A ship is tractored while it has equal to or greater than a specific number of tractor tokens, according to its size"

"After a ship becomes tractored, the player whose effect applied the tractor token may choose one of the following effects"

The key word is "becomes".

A ship only becomes tractored at the point when its token limit is met.

Yeah once it's tractored it's tractored, just that only does something when it becomes tractored not when it gains tractor tokens.

Interesting... that means if I use Ketsu Onyo (crew) to make you hold your tractor token/s, you would conceivably remain Tractored (game state), and even if I place more tokens on you, I wouldn't be able to MOVE you again.

That's correct. Ketsu lets you keep their defense lowered but prevents you from tossing them around again next turn. The exception, of course, is for medium and large ships where she lets you potentially put on the 2/3 tokens required over multiple turns, rather than all in one. Even in that case, though, you still only get one toss.

I could see it interpreted either way, but you most likely can't re-tractor. I think the keyword is "while" if that's the case. "Becoming" tractored could be read as anytime you receive tokens equal to or greater than your ship size. Definitely nerfs the effectiveness of Ketsu if you can't. Should be able to tractor them once per turn at least, imo. We'll see if they do an official ruling.

Tractor rules:

Ketsu crew enables it to be built up over multiple tirns while maintaining the defense de-buff. Ketsu Pilot with Shadow Caster can move up to medium bases if both effects proc. The tractored effect is only applied once.
