What’s your user name origin story?

By Gengis Jon, in Star Wars: Legion

With a hat tip to my buddy @clontroper5 who posed this great question over on the Armada side of the house awhile back, would love to hear some user name origin stories here in Legion land. We’ve got some colorful handles over here, I’m betting there are some good ones.

I’ll go first:

My first name is Jon (no H)

So my handle is a rhyming play on Genghis Khan (and with a no-H Gengis for good measure).

Spent some time dodging bullets in Khan’s old stomping grounds in Central Asia, so it feels right.

I like Sith = Darth, and I love Wolves, and my nickname is Wolf = Lupine.

in some other places I go by Admiral Wolf.

I had no cool nicknames, and I was at the time only playing two factions of xwing. So I went with it - bonus was a play on the old trope “rebel scum”.

Ironically, I play only empire in legion.

My first character for D&D back in 1978...

Haha! That’s the same year I learned how to play! Old babysitter just back from college just had to teach me this cool new game he’d learned.

Wish I could remember what my first character name was. Prolly some LotR derivative.

I could totally see this name in one of the spinoffs!

Star Wars, oddly enough. Specifically the original Battlefront II. CIS Bots had the name "Unit" and Republic Bots were named after Greek Letters, so I stitched them together to make "Unit Omega" (with some numbers at the end I usually leave off these days).

I thought it was the name of the old WEG blister pack that consisted of a metal tauntaun with rider. Seems like the blister was really just called "Tauntaun" but too late now.

Jedhead is from an old Doonesbury comic strip. In the strip, the term is used to make fun of Star Wars fanatics.

I am not a big fan of Doonesbury, I am a big fan of Star Wars, and one of my friends mentioned that the name could apply to me.

I adopted the moniker soon thereafter in all of my online ventures, and it has stuck since!

Also, I just like the way it sounds...

My in game name in Armada is Fleet Admiral Wolf Deralisk, Blood Squadron, Hirschau Sector. ?

Dark troopers were one of my favourite units in the original battlefront.

Feudal Japan is a hobby study of mine (from the SCA, a medieval reenactment group), along with studying and teaching Shinkendo (Japanese swordsmanship) and Aikido for the last 15 year or so. And my last name is Solomon....

I played a lot of Star Frontiers back in the 80's (still mess with it on occasion), and in one of my favorite adventure modules the characters are on a ship called the Gullwind. The first time I was registering for a discussion board, I happened to be in a SF kick, so I used it. Been using it ever since.

My name is Ryan Abt.

Erm.... My mum and dad thought it sounded good

Ive always used my actual name on interwebz and follow the rule of only saying things online I would say to people’s faces.

last name Stepp +(er) - with my College football number 79

I have been practicing medieval combat, both competitive and professional, for 20 years now - one with the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) and the other with a live-steel non choreographed fully armoured fight group. In both organizations, I am Cedric - having achieved the title 'Lord' and an esquire for one, and the other a knight. You know that a name 'sticks' when your family can't get your attention with your real name while in a crowded area and must call out your persona's name.

In name meaning books "Randy" means shield or wolf and I was born in 1972. Easy enough.

i added Darth to my old Paintball team callsign, when i told the team leader my french name the callsign Evil just rolled off his tongue, and it fit well since i had a tendancy to either hit people from and ambush position or sneak around a flank

My name is actually Luke Skywalker, but most people don’t believe me so I made up Cook for my last name... :)

Haha! I knew a Capt. America in the Marine Corps. He couldn’t wait to get promoted!

It's from waaaaaaay back in college and involved a Photoshop of a ferret wearing headphones.

I used to run a LARP where each game master was a powerful wizard called a Magi and my Magi name was Imhotep. So this user name is the user name I used on the groups for that game.

I made this account before I started using the username I prefer now, VorpalPoolNoodle.
