Seyn & Rhymer

By Wazat, in X-Wing Squad Lists

You're not supposed to load a TIE Bomber heavy. Probably not 69 points heavy, that's just a target. But it was a casual night so I decided to have a go at it. But to draw fire away from the main prize, I included a humble TIE Fighter and man did it work well.

Major Rhymer with Saturation Salvo + Adv. Proton Torps + Proton Rockets + Cluster Missiles + Skilled Bombardier + Seismic Charges (bah, never even used!) + Proximity Mines (69 points)

Seyn Marana with Marksman (31 points)

The scenario that day was to build two 100 point lists. We each got randomly paired with a partner, and we'd pick which half of the fleet to pair with the other player's to form 200 points (my other 100 point fleet was a naked Dash Rendar, who I never used). My ally fielded Norra (Y-Wing) with Ion and Vet Turret Gunner (I forget what else) and Sabine (TIE Fighter) with a shield upgrade; maybe other upgrades.

Rhymer sniping with range 3 Prockets or Cluster Missiles, and range 2 Advanced Proton Torps? Frick'n awesome. He landed some terrifying nukes and just wiped ships off the board. And Skilled Bombardier + Proximity Mines is my new favorite way to field a TIE Bomber: a 2-bank prox mine has surprising range. My opponents should have focus-fired him off the table. There was just one problem: I made sure Seyn made a spectacular grand opening, and a lot of their attention focused on her immediately. Sniping half the hull off of an A-Wing on the first round tends to garner attention. And I did it to another A-Wing next round. Suddenly that 31-point TIE became enemy number one!

Thanks to good positioning, a few slightly lucky rolls, and a lot of distraction, Rhymer was free to hunt and nuke with relatively little damage landing on him.

Man what a fun, silly day! I'm going to have to remember to field red herring Seyn more often whenever I have some filler points!
