Genius and trajectory simulator

By Break Windu, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Can anyone explain how genius and trajectory simulator work together and where it’s supported in the rules? I played a game with that setup today and the guy I played said that trajectory simulator could only be used in the system phase. I was under the impression that I could launch 5 straight after I moved. Any help?

what? how? have you read the cards?

trajectory simulator says:

"During the System Phase, if you would drop or launch a bomb, you may launch it using the 5 straight template instead."

genius says:

"After you fully execute a maneuver, if you have not dropped or launched a device this round, you may drop 1 bomb."

so you cannot use genius to launch anything with trajectory simulator, since genius is used after you fully execute a maneuver and trajectory simulator is used during the systems phase. genius also says you may drop 1 bomb. in other words, you can never use genius to launch anything.

Yeah, the guy you were playing had it right. As you can see, Trajectory Simulator can only be used in the System Phase, and Genius doesn't trigger until after your ship executes its maneuver in the Activation Phase.

Putting both on a ship gives you a couple different options for dropping bombs, but they can't be used together at the same time, or even in the same round.

Interestingly, there is nothing on the cards that would PREVENT them from interacting, if both of their criteria could be met simultaneously. If you could perform a maneuver in the system phase, you could then launch a bomb. The only way this could currently work, though, is via a docked ship (which deploys, with a maneuver, in the system phase)... but thankfully, none of them (yet) can either carry bombs or system slots.

Yes, I agree that in theory, if you could find a way to use Genius in the system phase you could launch the bomb...
