Cluster Missiles

By HavokReigns, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Example, a Firespray is jousting 2 Tie fighters. The Firespray is at range 0 of the first Tie and Range 1 of the second. Both Ties are in range 1 of the other. If the firespray fires a cluster missile at the Tie at range 1, the cluster missile card states the firespray can make another attack at an enemy at range 0-1. Does the specific rule on the cluster missile card take precedence over the general rule that you cant attack ships at range zero? What is the second Tie is out of my firing ARC but still at range 1 of the original target?

My gut is you still have to meet all of the requirements (except lock or focus due the card stating it ignores it) for an attack regarding range (can't shoot at range 0) and must be in Arc.

Thanks,

Havok

The bonus attack is at an enemy at range 0-1 of the first target. Since the attack must meet normal requirements, and clusters cannot be used at range 0, you cannot use the bonus attack against an opponent at range 0 of yourselyourself.

edit: This also means the bonus attack can't be used at an opponent out of arc, or at range 3.

Yup. 'This attack is ' [lock] spend a charge, 3 dice, range 1-2'. The only bit that changes is the absence of the Lock requirement.

This gets a little quirky with Major Rhymer, who can stretch the range up to 3 and (probably) down to 0 (although there's still a small debate going on there)... ;)

Not really. The range restriction on the second target relative to the first is not a weapon range, so he doesn't vary it.

The same applies to him as to everyone else (must be within range and arc of the original shot, must be 0-1 of the original target, must spend charge) he just has a wider range band.

I hope they officially state the range rules on this. Our local store ruled that the bonus works out past range 2 if it’s 0-1 of the original.

Your store is wrong.

They are doing something it doesn't say on the card.

That’s my thought, but fighting the crowd...

i dont know how your group is so wrong. nothing indicates that the range changes, just that you can do "this attack" again without the targeting requirement.
