Unfilled Rebel/Imperial Niches

Oh okay, the original topic. *adjusts tie* What the Imperials really need is a unique squadron that takes away the Heavy keyword from squadron at distance 1.

Actually, I don't know, I am having fun with the game as it is and I am not very good at thinking up new content. Besides my idea for an officer that allows squadrons to reroll red dice, I thought that one was pretty good.

I like the idea of a new officer or unique squadron to support squadrons, and a new flotilla that has decent combat stats that can be a screening force for/against squadrons, but I hesitate to give either faction the ability to take away a Heavy keyword. Most of the bomber deployment tactics I see locally involve intel keyword squadrons to move the bombers into striking positions, which would be hard-countered and therefore useless against fleets with that officer or unique squadron.

I think the take away heavy thought stems from our terrible imperial Torrin far knock-off that doesn't work with heavy things (I.e. everything that has been Intel'd)

I'm curious how a cheap two red anti squadron dice flotilla would work. It's not the most accurate die, but can be devestating to squadrons if it hits. Especially with the double hit sides. And perhaps a single black front die and a single blue side die. This is just speculation, I'm trying to throw potential ideas out there.

It's the largest flak bubble as well, meaning it can roll those dice the most times. There is a reason why most ships don't have red flak dice.

All you have to do is give this hypothetical double red flak ship an Achilles heel like weak shielding or defense tokens like Quasar Fire IIs.

That was my reasoning for making it a flotilla. I figured it would be squishy but in turn give it the advantage of having long range die. I haven't worked out specific details for it yet, but I think it is something that is very doable.

I'll vote for the flotilla to 2 IPV-1s.

aren't IPV 1's the same size as the CR-90? they'd be a single figure small base. Gozanti's are 63.8 meters, and the GR75 is 90m. so i'd expect flotilla's to be in that same size range.

since you'd have to go to Legends anyway, why not the Guardian Class customs ship?

If FFG announces a new Wave would it be better or worse if the ships are voted for in an official poll?

It would be interesting if they released the stats, but had us vote for the actual ships to be matched with those stats.

It only works if you price it high, and remove defensive options (meaning likely no scatter). Even then, its not something you want running around a lot. It has a massive bubble, and can trigger things easily. You also need to remember it is likely to be a hard counter, which means its either useless or oppressive. Is that what you want? Would you like to spend 50 points to have a 33% chance to remove 100 of your opponent's points? Would you like to let your opponent do that? What if it was more specific? That's what this is. It shouldn't be a thing because it stops people from playing a certain thing , pretty completely, which is not what you want.

Yeah it's 120 meters long, 30 meters shorter than the CR90.

I always think that it is smaller...

It seems unlikely that they have enough options to warrant an official poll. Remember, they need the Mouse's approval for everything (effectively ruling out those CINO/EU craft some people want like Lancers or Carracks,) and Disney might care about the stats realistically representing capability (so they can't offer the Imperial Support Vessel as an option for Venator stats.)

Scatter isn't as useful againsts large ships

Guardians are too small imo. Gauntlets are longer.

I don't play competitively, so it's not as concerning for me. I just like the idea, I think it could be pretty fun.

It would have to be multiple choice, rather than an open poll that's true.

I see your point as I would vote for CINO/EU stuff in an attempt to restore their Canon status. The Imperials in particular lost a lot of small ship options in Legends.

Oh yeah, I definitely didn't think about that. Never mind ?

I was actually trying to think about a way to make YVs better, but I didn't think about all the other consequences.

Isn't as useful isn't the same as not useful. you still make something that is hard counter, and is, in turn, countered by something else.

then what is the goal casually? A Hard counter tells your opponent they can't play something. If you don't want them to play that thing, tell them. If you just play a hard counter, you remove your opponent's fun to an extent.

I'm just going to end it here. No fun police as always in these kinds of threads

I mean it seems a little unbalanced, but I don't want to be accused of being the no-fun police.
