Can Rebel Han Work?!

By BenBot, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Is there a way to make Rebel Han a contender? Or is Lando just that much better?

im still learning how to use the bow tie turret and new dial. I find myself using the rotate turret or boost actions a lot and then having no mods for dice.

Im thinking about trying him with almost no upgrades...

I’d like to recreate a movie Heroes list I had in 1.0 with Han in the Falcon and Luke in an X-Wing but it’s tough to two ship in 2.0!

Here’s the mess I flew the other night:

Movie Heroes

(92) Han Solo
(6) Millennium Falcon
(1) Trick Shot
(5) Lando Calrissian
(8) R2-D2
(14) Bistan
Points 126

(62) Luke Skywalker
(5) R5 Astromech
(0) Servomotor S-foils
(6) Shield Upgrade
Points 73

Total points: 199

Should I just shelve the idea till more upgrades are available and try Lando and a Hawk? Or is there a way to make these two ships work?!

Lone Wolf, Title, Kanan and R2D2. Keep your arcs pointed left and right and do an orbit. It's the board position you want anyways on the outside because it makes your boost better if you do it. Kanan lets you clear stress very easily and gives you a passive mod if you don't need him for that. Combined with Lone Wolf, pilot ability and Title and you should get full strings virtually every dice roll with some very low cost regen.

Season Wingman/wingmen to taste.

I played the following and it was a blast:

- Han Solo (Trick Shot, Chewbacca, R2-D2, Agile Gunner, Engine Upgrade, Millenium Falcon)
- Wedge (Predator, R5-D8, Afterburners, Servomotor S-Foils)

200 points

Oh wow, I didn’t quite realize how Kanan crew works. The force point from the Kanan crew goes on the Han pilot card right? And can be used for dice mods?! Nice. ?

Thanks for the tips! It seems the gunners are a little too pricy for what you get unless you’re doing the crazy double tap with Gunner Han and Roark.

I’ll try your build the next time I can!

I’ve spent so much time flying the Falcon in 1.0 that it’ll take me a while to learn how to fly this new beast. ? ?

Agile Gunner is costly, but it's a free Rotate action. I also brought the 3 biggest asteroids, so keeping close enough for triggering Han's ability is easier.

Use Debris, it's generally bigger and Kanan can clear the stress from hitting it.

I actually enjoyed playing a naked Han with just ablative plating to be aggressive over some asteroids and fire off some early shots. Together with Thane and Ten Numb. A lot of fun to actively put stress on Ten Numb, put some fear in your opponent with Thane's ability. I did not win against Boba and IG-88. But that was more my flying than anything else.

I keep looking at Agile Gunner and I like the idea of a free rotation...

My main concern is that it might telegraph your movement? Has that felt like an issue at all?

Yes, it does telegraph but at least the Falcon has a dual turret and at Initiative 6 + Engine Upgrade, Han is usually able to manage.

True. I haven't used Kanan yet but a mix of Debris and Asteroids, the biggest ones, could be better. I also used Trick Shot so coupled with Han's rerolls when close enough to obstacles, that can be very solid.

Ok here is an idea after suggestions I might try next night at the FLGS:

Han & Wedge

(92) Han Solo
(14) Kanan Jarrus
(8) R2-D2
(4) Lone Wolf
(6) Millennium Falcon
Points 124

(52) Wedge Antilles
(5) R5 Astromech
(0) Servomotor S-foils
(2) Predator
(9) Proton Torpedoes
(6) Shield Upgrade
Points 74

Total points: 198

I imagine that having two wingmen for the Falcon is better than one ace but I’m gonna keep experimenting...

I've been playing Han like this for a couple games and I've decided this is my favourite iteration;

Han Solo (92)
Trick Shot (1)
Lando Calrissian (5)
Kanan Jarrus (14)

Total - 112pts

The gunners don't feel worth it in my opinion. Kanan is fantastic to help mitigate stress from boosting/slooping whilst giving a passive mod when his ability isn't needed. Lando works great with his ability regularly giving him 2 tokens. Trick Shot is an easy choice at 1pt. The title is nice if you can afford it, but I'd rather keep him as cheap as possible and get a third ship in the list.

AP-5 is a staple on upgrade for Rebel Han.

I've been running this :

Focus up

(92) Han Solo
(10) Perceptive Copilot
(2) Jyn Erso
(14) Bistan
(3) Swarm Tactics
(6) Millennium Falcon
Points 127

(47) Benthic Two Tubes
(0) Pivot Wing
(10) Perceptive Copilot
(4) Hera Syndulla
(8) Advanced Sensors
Points 69

Total points: 196

it's been pretty effective. And it was nice token stacking with Han who usually has two focus and an evade each turn thanks to benthic. That gives him rerolls and mods and double shots.

I ran rebel Han with AP-5 and Wedge this week. Really fun to fly and felt really good in terms of options and decisions. Having the i1 co-ordinate to maybe boost or Take a Lando if you are worried about being blocked.

The best thing is those rerolls ... oh my days ... Lando (reroll), attack (reroll), Kanan over a debris to clear the stress, reroll the rock dice to reduce odds from 1/8 to 1/64 ... Just re-rolling everything, it's crazy.

Really like the idea of Han for a fun list, took a look at some of the builds above and I like it even more. Here's the build I'm currently working with, looking for advice please:

-Han Solo (92)

Kanan Jarus (14)

Lando Calrissian (5)

Millennium Falcon (6)

-AP-5 (30) naked

-Ten Numb (50)

Elusive (3)

Should Elusive be Fire Control System instead? Is it better to drop the Millennium Falcon title, take both Elusive & Fire Control System on Ten Numb, then add something else?

I really like the title, as it makes Han more survivable, but don't have enough games under my belt to judge. I love B Wings, which is why I went with Ten Numb, but it also seems to synergize with AP-5 in a pinch. I also like ships with fat bottoms, since I'm not the best pilot/player. Thanks!

The title doesn’t add a lot that Han already gives you. I’ve seen @SOTL propose squad leader Ten Nunb to give two coordinators for Han. I’ve not played it though.

I like where this list is going. But I was thinking cut the falcon title and and instead of elusive on ten give him advanced sensors.

Seem like a decent idea?

Does anyone have any ideas on a double falcon list? The flapjacks were my favorite list to run in 1.0, but I'm struggling fitting them both into one list.

I’ve found myself not using evade in the couple games I’ve tried... I’m too busy with other actions.

I’d think with Lando crew there’s even less reason to take the Title?

I haven’t run a wingmate with Coordinated actions for Han yet so that might help.

Yeah Lando crew just supersedes the title, which isn't worth paying for anyway as it's not like you've got actions to spare.

The title gives you two things.

1. Evade action - as @SOTL says, it is superceded by Lando

2. Defensive rerolls if evading. Han already gives you rerolls. Being able to reroll rerolls might be worth it if you have 6 points to spare... but it's not easy to find those points and simultaneously not find something you would rather spend them on!

This seems alright in a casual setting. But I'd agree with the general consensus that the YTs are overpriced at the moment (maybe not Lando, I'm not sure yet). Still, I think this could be fun at least.

Chewbacca — YT-1300 84
Trick Shot 1
Cluster Missiles 5
Jyn Erso 2

Lando Calrissian — YT-1300 92

Perceptive Copilot 10
Nien Nunb 5
Ship Total: 108

There's an important piece missing here and that's that Lando opportunity cost is higher than the Title's. The title is competing with nothing, but Lando is competing with more critical crew like Kanan and R2D2. It's also noteworthy that with double rerolls on defense, layered rerolls on offense (pilot ability + Lone Wolf) and a possible force to spend from Kanan, you really don't need a second green token at all. Some table time with this taught me that Lando was a cute gimmick, but non-essential vs. Kanan and R2.
