Drinking Coffee - Happy Friday

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Hello People of the forum,

Now that we are a few weeks out is 2.0 better or Worse then 1.0?

I’m really enjoying 2.0. I feel it encourages more skillful piloting, and less “automatic” damage. TLT wasn’t automatic per se but if you were facing two or more it felt like you got shredded by them.

Better. Different. Interesting.

I suck at the game again... All is right with the world.

Happy Friday CB!

Right now, 2e is just different. Not better nor worse than 1e.

Still getting use to the change in vocabulary, new abilities, new tokens etc.. It's going to take awhile to get it all straightened out.

I love that second edition requires good flying for every ship.

I am really enjoying it, very happy with all the changes that were made

Better, but still has problems, mostly cost based problems which will hopefully get sorted out in the next few months. No reason to jump the gun just yet. Some design choices just suck like Ewings having a lock linked action with an LRS ability. One that bothers me is they kept Manaroos ability to range 1. Any coordinate ship or ship with Squad leader is range 2, IG88A is range 3, Landos ability range 3. New c3P0 crew for resistance is unlimited range. Manaroo still range 1 - ugh. Her ability was only broken with attanni. Dumb decision to keep her nerfed. There are a few other dumb decisions like this they chose to keep. Howlrunner 40pts must be at range 1, but Drea Renthal doesnt need to be range 1 of friendlies, only have the enemy in arc. The friendly ship could be range 5 from Drea, but he just needs enemy in arc. 40pts, same as howl. Makes sense ? And manaroo still range 1, and cant pass locks.

Hopefully FFG figures this stuff out.

Other than those gripes, 2.0 is 10x better than 1.0.

Much better but I still find myself starting a lot of games thinking my list is worse than my opponent's.

Either it's I'm not ruthless enough or I just don't enjoy list-building so much.

I need to find a way to correct this to have any chance against anything more than casual.

Happy Friday !

Far better, I embrace fully to the second edition ! :)

No more Harpoons, Sabine, Tlt ! Right now the game is really about flying not 360 shooting bombs games miniatures !

And I enjoy to bring back my Interceptor and Striker without fear or play with old pilot (Marek, Countdown or Turr Phennir) or with a swarm :)

2.0 is far better. I love the game again. There are threads about how some stuff is overpowered but I don't see it. There are some interesting combos, but my last game I flew nearly all generics and won vs an all aces rebel list. It's been a great time and I need to get more games in.

And now I'm off to get coffee.

Happy Friday, CB! And a happy Friday to all forum peeps of good heart! Coffee sounds lovely; what are having?

2.0? What's that again?

Of course, I jest!

Poorly.

I am loving 2E. I am finding that even ships that seem shyte can contribute if flown properly - really just some costing issues left to deal with. I mean yes, you can fly (insert ship), but why would you when (insert other ship) does exactly the same thing for cheaper? The answer of course is that (insert ship) is prettier and more fun to maneuver. Ha ha.

I like it better, I think. But I really suck at it. I think I've only won a single game out of about 8

2.0 is great, loving it.

Happy Friday! I'm on my second cup of industrial strength Folger's, black.

I'm loving 2.0, but it's been a far more challenging transition from a competitive/mastery standpoint than I anticipated. I flew high floor, low ceiling lists that minimized variance in 1.0, and I got used to winning more games than I lost. With 2.0 there's a ton more variance, and I have had to completely shift my thinking about what good list-building and good flying looks like.

Luckily, I have a great local group that's given me tons of good advice. First and foremost of which was to relax and enjoy the new game. I've really enjoyed getting creative and playing around with the new toys, and I'm excited to see where 2.0 takes us!

I think most people agree its better.

The main question has always been: "does the quality improvement justify the relatively high conversion cost?"

For me personally, as a 1-faction player (2 now that fo and Imps were separated) the answer is a clear yes. But I have sympathy for those with a different viewpoint as well.

80% better.

It has some pretty major flaws but none of them are even REMOTELY as glaring as they were in 1.0.

The Jonusball of barrage missile bombers is probably the #1 thing i'd say is ridiculous right now. With Boba pilot, Thane, and scum Han Gunner right behind. But even those dont feel as stupid as the 1.0 things that happened, theyre just tough.

Rules-wise it still bugs the **** out of me you can fail to decloak (NOT AN ACTION but were gonna lump it into the fail action thing anyway) but thats all that urks me about it. The rest are just points tweaking, which was expected.

Happy Friday CB! 2.0: I'm lovin' it!

I almost strictly flew aces in 1.0 and had a tough time close to the end, save for Vermeil's help. In 2.0 I'm flying everything. Its been quite awhile since Ace+Miniswarm was a thing and I'm really liking that archetype! Byt I'm having a hard time putting any "Ace" on the board under 60 points that isn't Fel+Predator.

There's really no comparison

2nd editition is both vastly superior ito variety + your flying actually mattering, and ito long term health due to the framework the designers have built for themselves

Being able to rebalance points and to create interesting new mechanics with the standardized basis (think of Cheri, graz) is just massive, as is the entire concept of linked actions

I like it. Although not perfect the rebalancing has made a lot more builds viable. I think the distance between fun lists and competitive lists was too great towards the end of 1.0. I haven't looked at a list I knew was going to lose or win before the game even started. Excluding brand new players.

Played my first game; amazing so much better than V1

i actively avoided playing the meta lists in 1.0 because i found them boring, not to mention i like to abuse my opponent's lack of knowledge on what im doing.

1.0 toward the end got so pathetic that if you DIDNT run the ... what 4 big lists? you auto-lose so fast it made your head spin.

Happy Friday!

Personally, I would say 2.0 is better. It managed to get some struggling ships like the t-65 up and running, pruned some abilities, expanded some mechanics. It's not perfect, but there are better tools in place to try to fix things than before.

Plus, my old friend the HWK got a major buff that would have been nearly impossible in 1.0, so 2.0 definitely gets brownie points for that.

Happy Friday! I love Second Edition.

Lack of listjuggler is really funny - people all have their own local metas and players and so we've got a lot more of people going online and saying "so and so list/ship/combo is totally busted!" and then other people don't see that at all. I think all in all the game is pretty balanced, and other than Redline and Blount, my experience is that the best pilots are also the ones who are most popular outside of the game, which is awesome.

All in all the game seems a lot more fun and balanced, and a lot more elegant and well thought-out. The online points and slots thing takes a lot of getting used to - building normal squads is just as easy due to YASB 2.0, but planning custom campaigns is kind of hard. But all in all I'm a huge fan, and every game I've played has been fun, and I haven't seen a lot of games that were total blowouts.

Overall it's better. It's got a couple of annoying problematic issues but nothing on the level that drove me and my best bud out of 1st edition. We're both playing again now (though not as often as we'd like).

HFCB.

As someone who enjoyed first and played it right up to the last, I've got to say 2nd Edition is better. Much better. The game hasn't been radically overhauled, but there's a lot of subtle changes which, when added together, create a noticeable difference in quality.

I particularly enjoy the number of mechanics and abilities now being linked to the Bullseye arc, which clearly rewards good flying at both ends of the initiative scale.

I’m much happier with 2.0 - I feel like I have more good choices to fly. I’m not locked into a handful of archetypes.

Played a few different lists - some I did well with and others I lost badly.

Did really well in a quick build format with Luke, Dutch, and Heff Uwing. All movie ships, and good? Yes please.

So many things left to try.... I am optimistic until at least wave 2. :)
