Interceptor Support

Hey there pilots,

I have been toying around with a list idea and I'd like to know if it has any legs:

"Vizer" TIE Reaper

Tactical Officer

Director Krennic

Tactical Scrambler

Soontir Fel - TIE Interceptor

Predator

Turr Phennir - TIE Interceptor

Predator

Saber Squadron Ace - TIE Interceptor

Elusive

Thoughts? I was also considering a version that had Admiral Sloane on the Reaper.

List-wise I see no problems. But I'd want to see it on the table

Why elusive on the Saber instead of another predator? This one is just curious.

Why equip a Tac Officer on Vizier? The free coordinate from his ability is white by default. Taking the officer does increase flexibility by allowing a stress free coordinate before or after the maneuver, but I would give the crew options/extra points another look.

For the Sloan alternative, umm, I would like it better with more ships on the table or another way to deal stress...

Have you tried Ciena Ree? Since there will be coordinating going on, you could really crank up the crazy with all those 90° spins. That might be too much of a mind bender for me to handle all the potential options.

I don't really like the way Vizier is built here. Krennic is a lot harder to pull off, and requires that Vizier has a Lock on the ship in order for the Optimized Prototype to spend their dice for effect. Vizier frequently will be using his pilot ability, and won't have actions to lock with. Tactical Scrambler isn't necessarily too bad, since Vizier loves to bump into things. Use your Ailerons move to set up a coordinate, then bump or block, obstructing the shot by simply being in their face. I could totally see cutting it, however, for a larger bid.

For crew, I'm actually tempted by Emperor Palpatine. Interceptors roll a lot of dice, but don't have too many tokens. Being able to toss a force out to protect a ship seems nice.

If I'm seasoning my version of this list to taste (I added a dash of nutmeg to my slow cooker pork carnitas this evening), here's how I build it:

  • Vizier (Emperor Palpatine, Tactical Scrambler) 60
  • Soontir Fel (Predator) 54
  • Turr Phennir (Elusive) 47
    • One of the really cool things Turr Phennir can do is perform his post-attack boost or barrel roll while stressed, which means that the penalty of Elusive is a lot lower.
  • Alpha Squadron Pilot (-) 34
    • For cheapness. There are cuts to change this into a Saber, however. Dropping either Tactical Scrambler entirely, or swapping Elusive for Crack Shot would allow cashing in the entire bid to get a Saber Squadron Pilot with Crack Shot.
    • I think a lone Alpha filler can get work it. It's easy for it to be ignored,
  • Bid 5, total 195 points.

I'm also recalling a game I played with a Soontir/Defender/Lambda list with Palp. It was actually kind of hard to use Coordinate on Soontir Fel. He really likes to use Autothrusters at max Initiative, but that will leave him stressed. As such, he can't be coordinated the next turn. Now, it's possible to coordinate a ship with a focus or evade, Autothrusters a boost or barrel roll, execute a blue move, and then have a normal action. I personally find this a lot harder to plan for. I don't want to lock Soontir out of one of his boost/barrel roll actions when I coordinate him at Initiative 2, I want his full range of motion available at Initiative 6. Just taking about myself, I think I feel that coordinate works better on ships which don't like to be stressed.

*aside* this is for a totally different thread, but two Delta Squadron Pilots and a Cienna Ree Omicron. Coordinate a Boost to a Defender, flip it sideways, and send it off on a 5-straight. Coordinate a bank-boost, twist it in the same direction, then 4k it. Wow. That is some crazy position. I'm going to have to put it on the table sometime.
