Which is the strongest faction in 2.0?

By Greedo_Sharpshooter, in X-Wing

Imperial.

And heres my reasoning:

With Rebels i feel like most of their tools are lackluster or flatout bad for the cost, the Xwing itself being the exception.
With Scum they almost completely lack ship synergy, so its a group of single-pilots that happen to not be shooting each other. While thematic, its kinda odd. The few mechanics they have that share effects are never seen (least i never see them).

As an Imperial player i feel like the only truely bad apple i have is the TIE Adv V1, NONE of them appeal to me in the slightest but i can use everything else to some degree and make it feel strong. I have like 20 lists i literally just roll a D20 for on casual play and without even trying i made about 10 of them feel like i was trying to be super competitive, when i was actually being more janky.

I dont know who has the absolute best list that is super difficult to beat, but i feel Imperials are the best faction because they have so many choices right now. Which feels SO WEIRD to say....

I think I didn't consider Vader a problem because I've never actually flown against Vader. Also, while I'd prefer to remove such free non-actions, I do think Palob is worse in that he not only gets his free ability, but also has no in-game cost and gets a free token out of the deal.

Nonetheless, for the sake of consistency, you'll notice that I did include Vader in my proposed fix.

You did, and I do congratulate you. But since you have, you should probably add Luke onto there. While he doesn’t affect enemy tokens, his regenerating focus is actionless, unblockable, and immune to many abillities that block focus use.

thus we see that this kind of actionless benefits are not limited to Scum, as you once listed in a previous argument. It’s far more prevalent than just one faction.

And as you are basing your opinions on Palob on personal experience, then I shall add mine in to better detail why I don’t think he is a problem. I have been playing Palob sense he came out in First Edition. Played against him plenty too. I know all the tricks for getting around his ability and it has only gotten more limited in 2.0 edition. And even that token he stole has no assurance of actually being useful. As @ficklegreendice has already pointed out, Palob is a mid initiative pilot with 2 agi and 5 health. I’ve seen him go up in smoke in one firing round because he couldn’t steal all the tokens, there were no tokens to steal, or Old Terry was there to eat his illgotten gains. The stealing a token might not be action based, but plenty of stuff aren’t and it is not immune from counter play.

The Tie advanced V1 is the best imperial ship!!! what are you talking about! i love the **** thing to death. The generic inquisitor is on my list of ships that may actually be too good and need a nerf....

You Crazy!

i feel like a noname striker does more work than grandinqy.

Not even factoring costs.

I forced myself to run with every ship a handful of times to gauge if i was correct on my initial thought of them or not. Of those i was rather surprised at how brutal the Reaper is, i actually expected it to suck in 2.0, and the Interceptor was OK but other than soontir nothing to write home about, but the TIE Adv V1 is the only one that i genuinely felt like i was wasting my time with.
Decimator isnt that great either but its also a totally different archtype, and that archtype as a whole is suffering atm. TIEAdvv1 is a knife fighter, which we have plenty of access to.

I have to choose Rebels, because they have B-Wings.

However, I'm willing to consider the Resistance at some future date, because they are LIKELY gonna get a modernized B-Wing equivalent.

You mean the ResBomber?

Wasnt that designed because an updated bwing chassis proved to not be worth it?

I think every faction has some seriously good stuff, but the really good stuff does actually have a steep learning curve. Playing a powerful boba right isn't actually very easy.

Top it off, playing Y-Wings well or actually utilizing Fenn Rau properly, is also hard.

I love all the arguments!!!

Some people feel a ship is too strong or overpowered and needs a nerf. Other people say the same ship is too weak and underpowered and needs a buff. Each faction has ships (not all ships, mind you) that are good and will see time on the top tables at tournaments.

All factions are good and strong in my opinion. Most everything can be flown and win, if flown well. So FFG did their job with 2.0!!! A single pilot or combo may be too strong here and there at the moment. Hopefully when the point rebalance occurs in the (near) future, all those issues are resolved.

Edited for spelling.

Fenn Rau could use a cost reduction. He's extremely good but extremely frail if you can get enough dice mod to actually land a hit. I'm scared to run him against Vader with a Target Lock on me.

Lack wit gets it! Guri is amazing. And expensive. And dies if you screw up. Soontir Fel is maybe the best 54 points in the game (I basically run Predator always unless real points starved). He is also 3agi 3 Hull that goes poof if something looks cockeyed at him. Supernatural Luke is a holy terror. He’s also an I5 X-wing.

The best stuff tends to be high skill cap, and I love it. But then again I’m a guy who flew Interceptors at all but the height of Dengaroo.

And as good as Vader is, the lack of Boost and Evade are serious limitations you need to plan around.

He ain't got a proper evade? Good. Means he's just a little easier to hit than his mooks. I'm thinking if I can have a "High priority" target, like a decked out Falcon or Kulda, I can trick a Vader player into taking out the high threat and swing Fenn around to **** near one shot him.

Yeah, I'm surprised this thread has lasted this long. It's all even and balanced, but people live to argue, so here we are at page 3.

If Fenn Rau is on the table besides Boba he is the number one threat

Well, true. My Little Brother didn't seem to identify that though, luckily!

I don't think he makes that mistake again

Haha, he better not.

1st Order

If the faction only has 1 ship, then you know that ship is OP

:P

Going to say scum but only if you are flying scum Han, boba with Han gunner, Palin or 4 long. I have had bad experiences with those as they feel like nasty 1.0 lists and has pushed me onto other games until the next points update come along.
