The issue with Heavy Ballista is that how can it even fire from one province to the next? It should have been Magical Nuke Ballista if it was meant to fire a target anywhere in the Rokugan world. -_-'

I like the idea of it firing from a shameful display myself.

There's a siege workshop in one province that constructs Heavy Ballista that can be sent where needed.

I lot of things "shoots" during shameful displays.

With the Scorpion AMA on Halloween, I wonder if this preview will be the most bone chilling one of all? :P

Pay 5, dishonour everyone on your opponent's side?

So this is one of the cards based on the fictions.

Pass if it was end of Turn maybe, but not consistent enough at 2 Fate in my opinion

More like Meh-yako's Undertaking.......amirite?

;)

It’s not a super card, but it’s playable.

Surely is conditional, but copying a Spiritcaller and then bringing Shoju is good. Or copying a LPB. Or a Minami Kaze regulars, or seventh legion. Or Guest of Honor. Or Kitsuki Investigator.

You know, lately I see some good cards that get disregarded just because they’re not OP.

The issue is the cost at 2 fate. For that cost being that dependent on a character in your opponents discard synergizing with your own line of play is too unpredictable.

I was on board at zero fate but at 2 fate, wow. Sometimes you might be able to hit the discard pile jackpot but 2 fate is pretty high. Then again, there are people who think that stealing secrets card is playable at 1 fate + 1 fate from a character, so this is for them?

On second take, this is perhaps more comparable to Ancestor's Strength. It makes it okay, perhaps one fate too much. This gives you the ability too, so perhaps why it had to cost one more. It can't be recycled however and has a steeper requirement.

Only really ok with some good throwaway bodies, so maybe in decks running Keeper Initiates. I don't feel like it needed the 6-or-fewer-honor requirement, but I do like that it's splashable. I think its biggest stumbling block is going to be that it's not very available to tempo decks. They're not going to be able to pay 2 fate to just upgrade a weak body, and they're not going to have many good options in the discard for the first few turns, which are the most crucial.

It's nice that it lets you poke and potentially break the same way Charge does, but the fact that you're working off your opponent's graveyard shuts down most combos. Sometimes it'll work out in your favor, but you're going to have to get lucky.

I'm not a big fan, but I bet it's going to break some provinces.

The same way that Cavalry Reserves will always mean Unicorn character costs need to be carefully checked, the existence of City of Lies looks to be affecting the cost of Scorpion conflict cards.

Id play a 1x the same I cant get rid of ICS. Janky but can be brutal. Sabotage \ Peasants Advice can help pick out some targets.

The City of Lies argument us interesting. Should we use it more?

Leaks in a fan from FFG France:

Mirumoto Hitomi, 4 cost 4/2 Dragon character

The Fires of Justice - Lion Clan Event
2 Fate, 2 Influence
Void role only. Reaction: After you win a ? conflict, your opponent chooses a participating character he or she controls. Select one – remove all fate from that character, or move any amount of fate from your opponent’s fate pool onto that character.

Aspirant Challenger
2 cost 2/2/?
Bushi. Duellist. Mantis Clan.
Composure - This character gains +2 ?
Action : During a conflict, initiates a duel (probably military ?) - Resolve the duel. Honor the winner.

Hida Yakamo
4 cost 4/2
Bushi. Berserker. Duellist.
If you are less honorable than an opponent, this character does not bow as a result of :mil: conflict resolution and can’t lose duels. (*This character is not the loser of the duel but the character of its opponent stay the winner of the duel*)

Is that SEAL Team Six who is kidnapping the Crane guy?

No, just a bunch of very snappily dressed ronin . If that's Doji Kuwanan , then I'm honestly surprised how long his hair is; I've only ever seen him with it either cropped short or shaved entirely.

They are wearing Hiruma-style red bandanas so I doubt that.

The card is named The Fires of Justice, which is exactly the name of the fiction where Kuwanan and Tsuko met.

So yes, those are the Warriors of the Boar, the ronin that captured Kuwanan, at the moment of presenting their prey to Tsuko.

Well then, those are some really well equipped ronin right there!

And they do look like Hiruma shinobi for me:

Pffft... don’t be silly. Shinobi don’t exist.

Although those colors resemble more Scorpion than anything.

Coincidence? Could be...

While I agree with you on basis, the picture is very clearly depicting one of the earliest fictions in the game.

I am surprised none of the Mantis fans are cheering that it turns out that at least one Mantis card will in fact be included in this set.

Actually, it looks to me like maybe all these "Challenger" cards might be the PC choices in the RPG Starter Box Set and this Mantis is the primary allied NPC of that adventure. These were the candidates for the Topaz Championship.

A Mantis who honours himself, now I've seen everything!
