Do we still have list building choices?

By Qark, in Star Wars: Legion

We had 11 players this weekend and one guy brought double t47s. Very refreshing to see and play against and made me wish i had something better than lukes gun to shoot at them. Against the trooper sniper spams the dead pile was very impressive but i think he still went down on objectives.

The combination of alternate activating units and weak reaction fire will result in a marked advantage of fielding a maximum of units. Armada has it, Legion has it and my sister has it, too.

I think comparing Legion and Armada in this respect is really flawed. In Armada activation advantage is huge because first player each round is consistent and predictable and more importantly not shooting at the right time can mean not getting a meaningful shot.

In legion attrition is going to happen no matter how well you play and timing of activations isn't as important as good positioning and utilising terrain to advantage. Being able to move then shoot 360 means that Legion is far more comparible to IA in activation comparision that Armada and as someone who played both extensively activations in IA weren't in the ballpark of importance that they are in Armada.

The other major advantage having more activations grants is having more unit leaders, which are important for 3/5 of the objectives. Additionally, any game with a "pinning" mechanic having more units is advantageous since you have more potentially sources of suppression, making it more likely to cause your opponent's infantry to panic, and having one of your units pins is less of a disadvantage.
