Recently, I picked up a few new ships and squadrons off of Shapeways, but as a new-ish player, I don't have the expertise on stating out ships and squadrons.

Is there any places on the web I should be looking for the ship/squadron stats?

Could you please share the links to them?

Hello. I am new to armada and I've already learned somewhat how to play from YouTube videos. Next month my mother plans on getting me a mel's miniatures custom of my favourite star wars ship (Venator) so I could have a try at armada when I go travelling nextyear.

My question is how do I print custom ship cards? Do I use laser printer?

Also. What paints do you suggest I use if I want to get a matt black and crimson? Here is a representation of what I mean

For printing the cards, I'd use whatever printer I had handy and then glue some card to the back. For the paint, any black with a matt varnish should work, as for the red, I'd recommend Citadel mephiston red, with a evil sunz scarlet highlight.

From a balance perspective?

Yes

Needs more/different slots (I've long advocated for Venators to have a support team, but at the very least a turbolaser slot, and probably weapons team and offensive retro. Ordnance is weird.) Squadrons 5 is incredible, and should be lowered. I'd also push the cost up a bit, but this is overall pretty solid. Everything else seems to fit.

Oh ok. So I should find one that has the same squadron value as an ISD?

I’d probably drop a dice from each side arc & drop engineering to 2, to simulate this is an older design. Maybe even drop a brace token. Keep squad 5 as the trade off.

No offensive retrofit slot so it can’t use expanded hangars or boosted comms. You can push a lot of fighters but without the more ‘modern’ abilities of the quasar or ISD.

The key to good design is about trade offs I think.

If this is something you found (as opposed to made,) it's really not a bad design and on the better end of what I'd expect to be available.

The thing to remember is, the Armada Shipyards cards that show CIS/Republic markings are ONLY BALANCED AGAINST EACH OTHER... NOT balanced against the core game.

Holy Upgrade Icons, Batman!

You may want to pair it down just a tad. Especially as that is the Squadron Upgrade icon in middle, but I like your exuberance!

Get it on the table, even if it is just a solitaire game, see how it goes. Best way I have found to play test my creations, is to have someone play them against me.

It is way easier to judge if it is over/under powered, if you aren't running it.
