The Champion Adventure card reads:

The Champion may fight in your place with a Strength of 3. If the Champion wins, the creature is killed or the opposing Character must lose 1 life. If the Champion loses, she is killed and your turn immediately ends . Enemies killed may be taken as trophies.

Well, it's not 100% clear, since your turn immediately ends when your Character is normally defeated in battle (or psychic combat), but I think the words in bold mean that no further effects are applied and no additional penalties taken.

Champion is not a powerful Follower, except when you're a Strength 2 Character and draw her in the very first part of the game. After that she becomes a "meat shield" that perfectly suits a situation like yours, with 2 Giant Beetles about to defeat you and exterminate your Followers.

Moreover, every Enemy that applies additional losses has always the sentence "in addition to losing a Life", so if you don't lose a Life you don't receive other penalties as well.

A FAQ would be welcome here.
